Trump was negative because of covid. Bush Jr. was close to zero because of financial deregulation which was partly his fault, but Clinton signed the Gramm-Leach-Blily act in 1999. Biden has pumped some money into jerbs I guess, but most of “his” job creation is going back to work “after” covid. And Presidents generally are given far too much credit or blame for “the economy”.

For sure. But why not Joey Biden?

Hey, remember student loans? Let’s fire those back up again w/ interest and let’s do it with poorly funded customer support from the Education Dept:

Department officials have told loan servicers to prepare to resume charging interest on federal loans in September, according to documents obtained by POLITICO under public records requests. Officials are eyeing October as the first month in which any borrower will be required to make a payment, the documents show, noting the requirement that borrowers receive a billing statement at least 21 days in advance of their due date.

Already the department has been forced to slash funding to federal loan servicing companies by nearly 10 percent. As part of the cutbacks, Biden administration officials last month allowed the loan companies to curtail their call center operations by 10 hours each week, including eliminating all Saturday hours. Officials also informed the companies they would not be penalized for failing to meet a performance standard in their contract related to long call wait times that caused borrowers to hang up before reaching a customer service representative.

The funding woes threaten to exacerbate the political pain of what was always going to be a tricky endeavor for Biden: Sending millions of Americans student loan bills for the first time since their payments were suspended at the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

The Dark Brandon move is just cancel them all. Nothing at all is going to get done with student loans in congress. Every GOP jagoff was always going to foam at the mouth if you canceled even five bucks for everyone, and you’re already in the fight now! Biden’s “win” as-is would be these weak partial cancellations, and he still gets all the negative backlash of restarting loans and interest. Just fucking take a swing here.

agreed. i’ve said since the start of the student loan thing, if he finds a way to just cancel it, the talking heads on the right would be mad for a few weeks and then it would just get pushed by the next flavor of the month thing… dragging it out is worse for biden, and this restart was always going to be terrible.

no democratic president should ever start repayments again… always just pause them until right after the next election… just say we need some more time to figure out the structure of restarting them, and plan on dec '24.

Yep. And then immediately cancel them all.
Because lol fuck you always works in USA#whatever.

She is saying he’s past his prime?

She’s been on about needing younger leaders. Just getting more specific timeframes now. We need her view on Trump’s expiration date too.

This is actually a pretty nice moment.

On NPR’s 1A this morning, a “young” listener called in to say he didn’t want Biden to run because his ideas are too out of date. He was interested in Williamson, though.

My kid, who just turned 18, said that many of his classmates mention Williamson as someone they like.

My take is that this comes from the feeling that the way we do it now isn’t working and will never work, so they are drawn to someone who is as much unlike our current options as possible.
