FWIW I think you were right with your initial approach, if people think something isn’t a soup they can vote against it. The line is too blurry.
Also obviously ramen is a soup wtf.

Do you eat it exclusively with a spoon?
I don’t eat pho exclusively with a spoon either, but it was on your original list. And if your rule is kicking out pho but keeping chili, it seems like a bad standard to me.
Let Wikipedia be the arbiter.
“Ramen is a Japanese noodle dish.” It’s out
“Phở is a Vietnamese soup dish” In
“Chili con carne is a spicy stew”
Out
So, no stews. Final decision.
I nominate Wurstsuppe, or as we called it at home, Woschtsupp’:
Maybe hard to see but this pot is at least 1 meter across. Translation from the article:
Wurstbrühe, or sausage broth, is the flavorful liquid produced during the preparation of boiled sausages, often enriched by cooking meats and sausages in the same pot. Traditionally linked to rural slaughter festivals in Germany, it was shared among neighbors and used as a base for hearty soups or stews.
We used to make this at home when we butchered a pig every fall; basically everything you want to cook from the pig goes in there over the course of three days or so: the blood sausages, the liver sausages, bones, you name it. It provides a flavor profile covering the whole of the animal, from snout to tail, from the liver to the skin. A truly unique umami experience!
Jim is a soup nazi!
The GOAT split pea soup
That’s a bit like saying it’s the best kick in the nuts, I still don’t want it.
Excuse me but that soup is delicious
I think the big mistake you’re making (and it’s not just you it’s everyone who runs these things) is trying to make clear rules on these things. Obviously everyone is gonna nit you to death. That’s like what we do.
Just go with if it feels like soup to me (i.e. JimHammer), then it’s soup. You’re doing the work of running this thing, so I think it is not unreasonable that you can just make some command decisions. If someone doesn’t like it, they can make their own soup thread/contest.
Forget eat it with a spoon or on a plate or whatever. Could you serve it at your family soup night? Then it counts. If not, it doesn’t.
.
I don’t think soup in a can can achieve GOAT status.
I know how people here love to nitpick, but I don’t have to like it. I’m going to run this as I see fit, and that may include not counting the votes of posters who annoy me too much.
Okay, it’s in.
I’m really struggling to understand how someone could think noodle soups aren’t soups. Is chicken noodle soup not a soup?
Obviously.
Nobody here thinks this.
