Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

I retweeted that hoping to hear some good defense from my libertarian non-denom Christian friend.

It’s like they can’t form a sentence that contains unemployment without the word fraud. Even the Dems are fucking doing it which is just another riff on welfare queens.

The number of cases flagged for fraud here in Oklahoma is staggering. They are doing big events at conference centers to try and get people their initial payment. From March.

Funny how individuals get labeled for fraud trying to get the bare minimum, while companies that exist on paper only get 8 figures on the finger.

I didn’t apply for it, but in a few states I know of they are basically having self-employed people not have a formula for what you get based on your income.

In those states, I think it’s calculated to be half of the average unemployment compensation. If the max is $450, and the average pull is $225, then you’d get $112.50+$600 (PUA) per week. PUA apparently is not 12 weeks from the time you start getting unemployment, I think it’s over in July regardless of when you started. Nice program you have there.

I’ve had to call in before regarding local tax treatment and advance tax credits due to filing a Schedule C for what’s essentially a gambling business. There wasn’t a single person out of the dozens I’ve talked to that had even the slightest idea what I was talking about which is what concerns me. I reported an operating loss after expenses last year so even $0+$600 would feel like a win I guess? There’s no way they’d pay me the prior year’s income or anything remotely close to it.

I vaguely recall that gambling income is specifically excluded from qualifying as income for PUA money.

My PUA went pretty smoothly after they got the website running mid May. One person I know who got it answered one of the questions wrong and had it cut off a month ago. She got through on the phone within a week, but was told there were thousands ahead of her with the issue and she’d have to wait.

EIDL loan docs approved and signed. Just about two weeks from start to finish.

Feels surreal. Three weeks ago I was like “guess I’m fucked.” Thanks to everyone who kept discussing and encouraged me to apply.

Fantastic! Did you get collateral or non-collateral based?

NC. I am too small time for them to offer me enough for the C option anyway :P

I got offered a fairly big number (80k) but didn’t want to collateralize my house.

I’d love to refi. I’m at 3.625 and think I could get sub 3 but wo my income active I’m not even going to try.

I’m a little behind here just catching back up, but I know of several people who have done it, including one live professional poker player who is choosing not to play online… Surprised he got it, but good for him I guess.

My understanding is that regarding UI and CARES, being a gambling business or not should not matter. I could be wrong and this could vary by state.

The way you keep referring to this is making me really curious. Care to share?

I don’t know what PUA is, but if it comes from the SBA I think you’re out of luck with anything gambling related. When I dug in to see if I qualified for any of the small business loans they were doing as a self-employed Schedule C filer, I came across a regulation that the SBA cannot put one penny toward a gambling business.

CARES Act should be fine.

It’s the $600 a week Pandemic Unemployment Assistance that runs out at the end of July.

No, it’s the parallel UE for gig workers. Both UE and PUA get the $600. I’m supposed to keep getting $200/wk through March

So the extra amount of state unemployment (the small amount on top of the $600) the gig workers/self-employed receive is also under PUA?

Yes.

I thought PUA was Pickup Artist.

I got an email from PA PUA. They are working on it. So some response from contacting my state rep.

Shockingly, Forbes thinks Mitch will cave on extending unemployment in some form

What they describe in that article isn’t in the vicinity of enough. Weirdly I think the Democrats should protest just enough to make sure everyone knows the GOP owns it and then let it pass. It’s already July and the virus is raging out of control. Things are really really really bad and this goofy 1T package is like slapping a bandaid on a sucking chest wound.

The Democrats could run the table in November (literally every important election) if this goes hard enough sideways before the election. The amount of suffering the population is going to experience is going to be CRAZY if Mitch gets his way here. The bottom 90% and some of those above it are going to get absolutely creamed over the next four months without huge interventions. If there was ever a moment for political Judo this is surely it. Yes it will suck a lot to let them hurt the country that badly, but we’d have a lot of room to maneuver in January and Trump would have zero stay-in-power equity.

I’m still definitely willing to bet the $600 does not get extended at all. I think it will be less or more means tested this time. Or possibly nothing at all. The cruelty is the point after all.
