Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

Again, grunching most of the thread.

Has anyone gotten UE as a contract/independent worker? Going on two weeks with my application has had no action whatsoever. Just says “new”. PA for me.

I really wish I could figure out the cheat code that allows me to live my life like people like Mitch and Trump do wherein words just don’t matter for them. They can literally say whatever they want, whenever they want no matter how stupid, incompetent, or monstrous it is and they never suffer any serious consequences. Here I am spending 30 minutes trying to figure out how to word a 1-paragraph email so as to not offend the overly-sensitive, insecure staff person cc’ed on the email so they don’t fly off the handle and I end up fired. Wtf.

The cheat code is having enough power that the people you might offend are scared of you. Then you can be as big of a dick as you want and people will do whatever it takes to tell themselves that you didn’t mean it that way.

There is that, but equally if you give people what they want they will put up with all kinds of shit. I think tolerance of transparently awful Republicans had more to do with getting the tax cuts and/or racist policy their supporters want, and frankly not giving a shit about the rest. Honestly the Dem voters could learn something from this and just support whoever gives them stuff they want instead of subjecting everyone to a bunch of extra purity tests.

Seems this is accurate. I entered DD info last Friday and the payment date of May 6 showed up this morning.

That’s part of the reason I’m only ambivalent to votes people like Biden made 30 years ago. Ok, so maybe he’s a soulless political hack who only supports a position based on the winds or whatever, and he was late coming to the game on, say, gay marriage, but if he’s going to cast a vote for progressive policies now, I don’t really give a shit about his personal failings.

To be clear, there are other issues like being too wililing to compromise with bad-faith opponents, but that’s a different set of issues.

My business did get the PPP money. We had told our employees that the next pay period would likely be their last without the loan. So next week we get to tell them that everybody’s getting paid for the next eight weeks. Need to pore over the forgiveness rules and do some math, but there’s a possibility some people will actually be given raises/bonuses to help them prepare for whatever’s coming next. Also means we get to delay the negotiation with our landlord until we have a better idea of what business is going to look like. That’s going to be interesting, because I’m assuming lease rates and occupancy are going to nose dive, which will make our negotiating position very strong.

As I’ve been saying for a while I believe forgiveness will be an even bigger fiasco than the application process, but I’ve got the time to focus on it at least.

Yes. Despite my extreme cynicism, MA had their system in place more than a week ahead of schedule. Application accepted in < 24 hours, claims approved and funded in about a week, backdated to March complete with BernieBucks.

No. Oklahoma has been saying for weeks they will have more info soon.

A couple things I am still not clear on.

If you applied for the EIDL grant and got it, never applied for the actual EIDL, and also applied for the PPP and got it, How does the EIDL grant fit in? Will it need to be paid back? Does it need to be used for forgivable expenses like payroll to be forgiven?

As far as I can tell these loans are not personally guaranteed at all. I have 2 friends with an LLC who got the PPP and are trying to make it work but they might have to shut down for good in a few months. If they end up not getting forgiveness and close down the business will they be personally on the hook? Also who ultimately doesn’t get paid back? The lender or the government? I am not sure how I feel morally on this but it definitely changes my perception a bit if the Lender doesn’t take a hit.

same for the wife and I

Paid in 18. Didn’t file 19

My accountant said that as an independent consultant the PPP and UE were mutually exclusive. So I just did EIDL and applied for UE.

If you got an EIDL grant and then get a PPP loan, the amount of the grant is deducted from PPP forgiveness.

The PPP is not personally guaranteed. I believe the government would be left holding the bag.

Applied for EIDL on the 7th. I just received a random email saying thanks for my patience and it’s processing In the order received and they will email with any changes. That’s the only thing I have heard from them.

I just got the same email.

Still getting the payment status not available message. Does that mean I get a paper check at some point if I never make it past this screen?
