Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

Thats what I’ve been reading, just wanted to double check with the smart people.

Do we have any word if Republicans are going to not negotiate on any bill now?

Not FEMA but Disaster Relief Fund

Here I’m quoting directly from the actual executive order (not the media’s bungling of it):

“To provide financial assistance for the needs of those who have lost employment as a result of the pandemic, I am directing up to $44 billion from the DRF at the statutorily mandated 75 percent Federal cost share be made available for lost wages assistance to eligible claimants, to supplement State expenditures in providing these payments.”

Who knows?

30 Senators don’t want to spend a dime.

If there is no bill soon, then shit gonna hit the fan and these executive orders not gonna do shit for that.

Also, to be clear, he did NOT extend the eviction moratorium.

From the EO:

“ Sec. 3. Response to Public Health Risks of Evictions and Foreclosures. (a) The Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Director of CDC shall consider whether any measures temporarily halting residential evictions of any tenants for failure to pay rent are reasonably necessary to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 from one State or possession into any other State or possession.

(b) The Secretary of the Treasury and the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development shall identify any and all available Federal funds to provide temporary financial assistance to renters and homeowners who, as a result of the financial hardships caused by COVID-19, are struggling to meet their monthly rental or mortgage obligations.

(c) The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development shall take action, as appropriate and consistent with applicable law, to promote the ability of renters and homeowners to avoid eviction or foreclosure resulting from financial hardships caused by COVID-19. Such action may include encouraging and providing assistance to public housing authorities, affordable housing owners, landlords, and recipients of Federal grant funds in minimizing evictions and foreclosures.

(d) In consultation with the Secretary of the Treasury, the Director of FHFA shall review all existing authorities and resources that may be used to prevent evictions and foreclosures for renters and homeowners resulting from hardships caused by COVID-19.”

A bunch of looking into stuff and nothing actually stopping evictions.

Isn’t this the whole point? Seems like Meadows being part of the negotiation is a pretty big tell. They just wanted Trump to get an optics win.

My guess is they let Trump claim victory for a couple days, and when the media starts to realize that he can’t deliver, suddenly the negotiations will get serious.

Right, and as Nich noted above, that gives leeway for about half a week to everyone on UI right now

The new program potentially covers all 50 states, but not Puerto Rico. Also doesn’t cover anyone getting less than $100/wk in unemployment.

Why are journalists pretending that this is a thing that’s actually going to happen? There is no path for the administration to make this work

Sigh

People reporting on this just refuse to read the actual order.

“ a) For purposes of this memorandum, “State” includes the territories and the District of Columbia, and “Governor” includes the chief executive thereof.”

Puerto Rico is included.

Because the president of the United States said it’s a thing that’s going to happen and you have to take him at his word because norms.

Also Trump is good for ratings.

I haven’t read it, but isn’t the argument many in PR won’t get it because their territory UI is less than $100?

Does it even need to be distributed though? When it doesn’t go out he can just blame democrats

That is the plan for sure.

Their max is $190 so that’s not it. Some won’t I’m sure but any state that happens.
