Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

The Democrats had all the leverage, then they declared they would definitely get a deal, caved 60% of the way, and the GOP laughed them out of the room and didn’t budge. That’s literally the worst case scenario. It’s not a coincidence that Democrats never land on anything but the worst case scenario. They’re professional losers. They get paid the big bucks to put up token resistance and then lose.

They’re complicit as fuck.

Because you keep saying nothing is better than something. That’s a calculus whether you want to admit or not.

I guarantee you there are quite a few Democrats who are smart enough to execute my strategy and it ain’t leadership. If Congress did not sue, they would be abandoning power of the purse. There is no way they can’t sue. That would be a top 5 worst outcome in this presidency.

At this point I have to agree that they are totally in on the con.

lmao

It’s pretty amazing for you to essentially align me with eDems when I literally ran for Congress against that. Please stop.

They have to sue while offering the same deal or better every day, and making the republicans vote against or refuse to vote. But it never should have gotten to this and it wouldn’t have if we had competent leadership that wasn’t in on the con.

I’m also starting to reconsider my capitulation to vote for Biden. This shit is never going to end if we keep letting them screw us.

Wait, you actually think negotiations are over? Unless there’s an official Senate recess I haven’t heard about, they aren’t. The idiot doesn’t even have EOs ready. The Dems called his bluff and now the idiot has to back it up.

I mean just letting Trump go full dictator seems like a bad plan and bad precedent. I don’t care what the consequences are to fighting that tbh.

I keep saying a good deal > no deal > a bad deal. Liability protection is a non starter. Anything with it is a bad deal.

I don’t disagree. But leadership calls the shots and there’s a reason they’re leadership.

If they sue, Trump is neck and neck with Biden a week later. Guarantee you the GOP is hoping they sue.

I’ve been waiting for you to drop the “I ran for Congress,” card.

Your posting consistently gives too much faith to eDems, facts are facts.

They can’t sue and they need to pass the Heroes Act again tomorrow. If they sue they erase Biden’s lead and take a hefty share of the pandemic blame going forward. Cannot do it.

If you sue him, he wins and goes full dictator. The best path forward is to claim victory, and if his EO < $600/wk keep passing $600/wk over and over. Once you win, Biden can do anything he wants via EO.

First paragraph is correct.

The second is the fastest way to violent revolution or extreme oppression. My bet would be on the latter if I were willing to make one.

They can sue with a clear message that they cannot set this precedence but are willing offering the same deal or better and all the republicans need to do is vote on it so it’s done correctly and doesn’t stomp on the precious constitution.

Ya I don’t think suing is the best option either. But just essentially turning over the legislative branch to Trump less than 3 months before the election seems super bad.

Well the current path is headed there anyway. Maybe if we walk away from the dems they wake up and represent us? Otherwise we’re all fucking fucked anyway.

That’s not how it’s going to play in the media.

Sue if/when he does something with it that doesn’t save a bunch of lives. I mean it’s a shitty situation, but this is what 3.5 years of capitulation gets you. They’re a fucking joke, and they deserve to be in this spot. The crisis is that the whole country is being dragged down as a result.

I would say that’s an excellent plan for 2022 if we get Trump out. I’m not ceding this country to Trump and his minions without a fight, and I really hope you’ll feel the same way on election day.

If the dems are so incompetent that somehow a message that “the republicans wanted to help the poor and unemployed but the dems won’t let them” wins the day, then we need to kick them all out and start over anyway.

They are that incompetent/complicit, I guaranfuckingtee it.

The reason we’re super fucked is that once you realize the magnitude of the situation, fighting it is so hopeless you’re genuinely better off trying to focus on trying to bootstrap out of it individually. Collective action requires tens of millions of people or decades of political building.

We have seen absolutely zero outside of Mitch’s original deal and the HEROES Act. Both were non starters in each body. Whatever they’ve been negotiating is not from the perspective of Mitch’s bill, it’s from the HEROES Act.

To put this another way so you can see what you’re advocating:

Slightly better than detente > tons of lives lost and upwards of 40 million people homeless > detente

Remember, no matter what Congress does on this round, it will not be enough by a long shot.

You are advocating they completely abandon their power of the purse for, checks notes, optics. F*** optics, everything done from this day forward to the election will be a precedent for both sides. If Trump wants to do major legislation going around Congress via EO, that’s great for when he loses and the next pres can cite him as precedent. If Congress wants to stop abuse of power from the Executive Branch, then they have to sue. It is bonkers that you think they shouldn’t sue because of the optics you think it will create. There won’t be an injunction on what he’s doing, so the Dems won’t be doing anything other than protecting their branch. If they don’t, that’s game over, a willing game over. I know you don’t want that.

You’re correct, cuse, I ran for Congress stressing the need for massive systemic reform like what we’re talking about here just so I could come back here and say to you, cuserounder, ‘I ran for Congress’. That kind of statement makes you look silly.

I’d prefer the system rebuilt from what’s there now and do not want to burn it down like most of this site does. That’s no advocacy of anything toothless leadership Dems are doing. I believe it can be reformed from within government (sorry it won’t be quick), like a lot of members of Congress do or they wouldn’t have run.

Giving them a liability shield was going to kill more people than no deal, Mitch wouldn’t go for anything without a liability shield so they shifted to the White House. $1T is a joke, the WH wouldn’t budge. So here we are. Your choices were kill more with a liability shield or sign for $1T.

Which do you want?

Optics win and lose elections. The most important thing now is avoiding dictatorship. Lose in November, we have dictatorship and permanent one party rule.

So if we have to let him have a dictatorial EO, that’s what we have to do. It’s realpolitik, it sucks but it’s simple at this point.
