CNN says the White House believes Trump can extend unemployment benefits via executive order, and the Democrats plan to challenge all of these executive orders in court.

Kevin Hassett, former Council of Economic Advisors Chair under Trump, tells CNN this backup plan by the White House has been in the works for over a month. He says in an emergency, the federal government is allowed to lend money to states in an emergency. He says Trump can do that to lend money for unemployment. He says the payroll tax can be delayed in collection, it’s “clearly” under the authority of the Treasury Secretary.
If Trump comes out and does stuff by EO that the Democrats passed, Democrats should take a victory lap and say Trump caved and executed the liberal plan by EO, and when asked if they’re going to sue, “Why would we? He just executed our plan. Ask McConnell…”

Let’s not forget unemployment is taxable and we still have no idea whether the PPP forgivable part is taxable. All of this should be non-taxable or the actual packages should be 30 percent higher. IRS gonna be a disaster next year.
I saw something that claims there’s still $1 trillion unspent from previous bills and that they’ll be trying to use the money from that to do whatever EO bulls*** he wants to do. If he steals all that money, and there’s no reason he can’t (who’s gonna check him boo?), and puts it toward unemployment it’s s sizable amount of time bought. If they had any bit of strategy he’d change it to $800 in the EO, but they don’t.

I mean, yeah I guess. If Dems sue to take unemployment benefits away from millions of Americans, I think you’re going to find them losing a lot of their base. Those people won’t vote for Trump, probably, but I don’t know what that does to a lot of states. I guess Biden could just lambast Congressional Dems and get the votes back.

They would most likely mirror that part of any EO, pass it, get it signed, and then sue over whatever they don’t want, such as the payroll tax suspension which is wildly unpopular on both sides of the aisle.
Again, this is what impeachment was about. The GOP outside of Romney blank checked him to do literally whatever the f*** he wants until November 4. If the voters reject him huge, that unchecked power is over. If he wins, our Constitutional Democracy is over.
I’m serious when I say he can literally do anything he wants right now. The only thing ‘saving’ us is his abject stupidity.

What proper thing are you talking about? They should have done a skinny bill that actually helps people immediately. Based on something you linked above the bad faith was the GOP plan all along. You thinking caving is going on is what needs to stop. Based on the events of the past few days, GOP was never making a deal. You got what you wanted I hope the consequences will be worth it to you.
As for embracing the GOP’s strategy, I hate it, but they’re goddamn good at this. They kick our ass every fucking time. They had no leverage and just made up new rules. If Democrats had been doing something smart all along, it never would have come to this. But that’s never in play because LOL at Dems doing anything smart.
