Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

Agreed.

Right, if it’s not forgiven put it in the stock market and pay it back over time. You can’t really lose. If the market doesn’t beat 3.75% per year over 30 years, there’s a decent chance the dollar collapsed anyway and you can basically pay it back with Monopoly money.

Goddamn can I not wait for the crazy SBA loan programs that are going to get created in the rebuilding phase of this thing. I might build a real company yet.

If biden wins but Mitch holds the Senate there will be no more stimulus period. That’s my prediction. That’s what they did for the six years they were in power during the Obama presidency while the cried about the slow pace of the economic recovery and that’s what they will do again.

This next round of stimulus, what ever it may be, will be all we get. It’s laughable that Republicans criticize blue states as being financially mismanaged when red states are the clear leader in metrics like high poverty rate, high rate of uninsured, and underachieving scholl’s. But hey how about that Alabama football team. The entire state is so poor they can’t even get any kind of pro franchise. What a joke. Mississippi…what a joke. Arkansas what a joke. Kansas what a joke.

Probably, but he’s still one of the good guys unlike his opponent.

What is there to hate about Kennedy other than him being another damn Kennedy? I can’t see any meaningful difference between him and Markey besides their ages.

I think Markey is more progressive economically, but I could be wrong.

Progressive Punch has Markey as having the most liberal lifetime voting record in the Senate.

Markey is progressive, actually gets shit done in Congress, and isn’t a self-aggrandizing idiot who is just about power. Kennedy seems to be the exact opposite. He’s trying to primary one of the best legislators in the country off his name to get power. It’s very disgusting.

Kennedy’s rationale is both straightforward and, to many Massachusetts Democrats, pretty thin: He thinks Markey isn’t doing enough, nationally or locally, and he would do better. “The job of a senator is more than the votes you cast and the bills you file,” Kennedy uses as a refrain, meant to rebut Markey’s recitation of a solidly progressive voting record. His implication is that a senator from Massachusetts, like Warren, Kerry, and, yes, the Kennedys, needs to be a star, a national movement leader.

Kennedy also pretends to be a progressive, was against Medicare for All, Marijuana legalization, etc. until it was politically expedient for him to get involved

I’m fine with the Kennedy bashing because I think he deserves it, but Markey has been a politician almost my entire life in a state where I’ve lived half of it, and I can’t think of even one signature accomplishment he can claim. That’s damn near a half century of just showing up to make sure his name was on the right list.

AOC endorsed Markey, John Lewis endorsed Kennedy. Should be fun.

Looks like the Republicans are up to $400/month in exchange for reducing Postal Service funding. I assume that means the liability shield stuff would need to be included as well.

USPS funding has to be non-negotiable. Same with election security. If they cave on those I’ll be unsurprised but furious.

They already caved on USPS funding from 25bn to 10bn.

Better yet, just demand to reverse this absolute nonsense where they have to pre-fund pensions for 75 years, which allows right-wing assholes to claim they lose money when they don’t.

They will never have more leverage than this, ever. They don’t seem to understand that, somehow.

As was said yesterday they are negotiating against themselves. The Republicans can’t pass any bill. The Democrats already passed theirs. It’s dumb as fuck to slowly whittle all the good stuff out of your bill to get a compromise you don’t need.

The election will be an absolute slaughter if the economy doesn’t improve or if (GASP) the stonks actually aren’t going up 5% a week somehow. The Republicans own that. Get what you want or tell them to fuck off.
