Hoo boy! That sounds like an impeachable offense! Boom! Got’em!
It’s the awesomeness of living abroad that makes it doable for me.
Not that things here are way, way better here but I’m ignorant to a lot of the negatives and keen on the positives.
There’s no real value gained from following the news closely because there’s nothing you can do about it. But some people can’t look away from trainwrecks.
There is nothing you can do about it. I’m firmly convinced that in the modern age the traditional ways of resisting are pointless. You win on people’s screens or you don’t. Unless one of us has hundreds of thousands or millions of followers it’s unlikely we can do anything in my opinion.
So for most of us checking out for the most part is the rational choice. If you get got you get got and there was probably nothing you could have done about it anyways.
Imagine being a dissident in 1930s Germany. What could you, as an individual have done to stop any of that? Nothing. Maybe you impact a few lives in your immediate circle. And that’s important because I think it’s what we all have to focus on these next 4+ years. The people around us. Help those people as much as you can and leave the macro stuff to fate.
I don’t know how this isn’t obviously always the best thing. What is your expected impact for any action? Some donation or participation in a large public event or vote is almost never going to have anywhere near the expectation you’d have by doing something concrete for a person (or for the environment or w/e), in person.
I seriously wonder how this would work out as far as the work actually getting done/done right. My take on migrant workers is that they bust their asses because even with the low pay it’s still a zillion times better than they could do at home, and they want to keep their jobs. With prisoners I would imagine the prevailing attitude is gonna be “lol fuck off, what are you gonna do, take away my $2/hr?”
I think it’s almost always true but dummies like me are just realizing it.
They’re not going to actually kick out immigrant workers in meaningful numbers, they’ll just make their lives increasingly dangerous and shitty.
Also Secretary of Crudites
One would think so, but I’m feeling more and more like they are willing to do this even if it fucks up all kinds of industry.
They are def gonna deport all these people. They don’t care about the effects. They want them gone.
I think they’ll make a big show of deporting a bunch of them and re-instituting child separation, but big agribusiness needs those workers here. Trump doesn’t actually have to deliver on his promises, he just needs people to think he is.
I assume the beatings would commence at that point
What moron would ever agree to helm an agency the adminsitration is explicitly saying it wants to kill.
Ahhh, I see.
It’s unlikely to be 20 million people, but hundreds of thousands have been deported under previous administrations, including Trump’s last, and I think it’s going to pass a million anyway in this term.
Odds are high that Trump would have made George C Scott a five star general if he could.
I’m not so sure. People like Stephen Miller clearly want them gone.
Have a friend who’s truly in the dark regarding all things politics. He just does not pay attention at all. And he’s far happier as a result.
Something I think about a lot.
