Being able to check out for two weeks post-election is pretty good, that means you probably also have the discipline to check out for even longer, something that many of us can’t seem to do.
IMO, main thing you need to do to maintain your sanity is realize that America isn’t special and never has been (slavery-> Jim Crow->Civil Rights Era but with huge resistance). Massive swathes of humanity, both present and past, have lived under authoritarianism. And even as a member of a disfavored group it can be quite boring and tolerable as long as you are not presently in its crosshairs. May be unavoidable that some of us end up in its crosshairs but just look at the chances of that as no different than chances of getting in a car wreck or contracting cancer. Yeah, bad shit can happen at anytime, c’est la vie.

It still makes me laugh to have fortune cookies that insult your customers, but it’s basically true. And I was a true idiot in college and much happier for it. Anyway I guess my point is to stay checked out for as long as you can, bc nothing is getting better anytime soon.

Much of this is the death of privilege and imminent role reversals. Midde Eastern violence, the work done by Chinese citizens, how unkind history has been to everyday Russians are all examples of these reversals.
Climate change could even be a boon, in the long run, for poc worldwide by evening the playing field, so to speak.
