Are We In Danger Of Losing Freeze Peach (And Are We OK With That)?

Bill Maher watcher?

Hey, I totally appreciate whatever amount of time and thought you put into this A+ post! I definitely see elements of me in your friend and yes, it does come from sports culture and barstool or 6 packs on the couch watching with my bros. I think some of it also comes from being raised to never let anyone see you cry or that your feelings got hurt, etc. My father is very liberal, but he’s not what you’d call passive dude and never shied away from a fight. That doesn’t have much to do with liberalism, but I was raised to stick up for myself and fight my own battles. I’d never come to him if I got bullied or made fun of for something

And maybe that’s why like your friend, I also take some issue with the SJW culture even tho I very much want to be a part of it. It’s actions, deeds, and actual progress I thought were important, not words or feelings. I mean, jfc moderate Dems have been playing identity politics for years and I don’t see them being of much help. If anything, I see them as having a negative impact on many issues

But as you so say, whatever insults, torments, battles, I’ve endured throughout my life, I’ve never had my simplest of right to exist questioned! That does put everything into a whole new perspective on why it’s not enough to be accepting of LGBTQ rights, but actually go out of our way to fight the anti LGBTQ crowd, which I thought I did and have done. But you’re right. I have the luxury of doing so at my leisure and not as someone who lives among a populace that questions their right to exist

The area of discrimination that is nearest to me and I like to think I’m most educated on is sexism (mostly because of my sister and mom). I follow a popular feminist on twitter and it’s utterly amazing how sexist men can be in the process of trying not to be sexist! They just dig themselves bigger and deeper holes never realizing the irony that that all they’re doing is further showing off their male privilege (and no, this irony is not lost on me doing the same thing here). It is sometimes comical if it weren’t so sad. It’s even hard for me not to “step in it” when a feminist makes a comment about men and the men make futile attempts to defend themselves and show well that’s not me! When very often the proper response is for men to stfu and listen to the struggles and challenges of being a woman living in a patriarchal society an culture

So when it comes to trans issues I can see where I’m like some of the men in the feminist Twitter thread, but here is one key difference: I’m able to hear directly from feminists who are women! I also hear directly from gay friends and friends who are minorities. I’d be much more receptive to a trans person lecturing me on my sins than a bunch of SJWs who aren’t transgender bleating on about why I’m so fucking wrong about everything as they seem to speak for them

Think I’ve mentioned before that I found this site because my buddy told me about 22. He’s Black and told me about this poker site where white people think they know more about racism and the struggles of his race than he did. I lurked long enough to get a taste of what he meant and then this site popped up. So I kinda came in with a chip on my shoulder

Anyway dude, serious thanks for such a cogent post. You probably haven’t cured me, but definitely at least pointed me in the right direction. I still have a long journey ahead of me being a cis white privileged male

I grew up watching Maher and can’t believe I used to love that guy. Now I think he’s basically a shilling right wing conservative prick

Isn’t the whole “the real racists are the people calling people racists” literally straight out of the right wing playbook or am I missing something. You act like none of us might also possibly have any interactions with non-white straight peopleor something. Wow you have a black friend and follow a feminist on twitter! None of us can imagine that depth of life experience. Just an utterly clueless excuse riddled take.

Do you really run into this much? In my experience misogynistic alt right commentators talk a lot about these supposed shrill SJWs like they’re on every street corner but I think its mostly made up.

Yeah, its like how the right wing always talks about feminists with purple hair or whatever ruining their college experience. I went to a school with 30k ppl and don’t remember seeing anyone with super weird hair? And I wouldn’t care if my classmate had blonde or pink or green hair?

I know many gay people. I honestly don’t know (to my knowledge) anyone who’s transgender

And maybe you should consider that the right wing playbook is literally drawn up based on ignorance. But being ignorant doesn’t mean you’re following the right wing playbook

Its a damn good start.

What I meant was I think it would do me a lot more good if I made an attempt to meet or at least learn more about transgender people through them instead of from a bunch of non trans people here. If anyone here is trans feel free lecture me on my errors, PM me, or just have a pleasant discussion on my biases and what I can be doing more productively to garner society’s acceptance of the LGBTQ community

Well, go for it. The personal lived experiences of transgender people, told by transgender people, is readily available information all over the internet. By all means go consume it.

You are literally playing the “I have a black friend” card on us. Consider that for a second.

C’mon… We are ALL ignorant about some things.

O.M.G.

There are degrees of ignorance. And manipulative conservative commentators prey on ignorant and lazy consumers of cultural content.

Are you not using this to explain how you know more about racism and the plight of the black community because of your black friend or what exactly was your point?

Agreed. And I’d lump CNN and MSNBC in that group too. The one thing I think I might be a bit more in tune with than some of you guys is when it comes to the pulse of America. Seriously… As important as these subjects are, 90% of people just don’t eat, breathe, and shit this stuff out 24/7 like some of you do. I just got a big project dumped on me yesterday at work. Not only won’t I be able to keep up with this site, but my overall news consumption will be way down. And I think that’s the case with mainstream America. I don’t know what you guys do for a living that you can be posting online so much. I’m not knocking it. Maybe you’re older and set in your careers. Must be nice, but I don’t even have kids and honestly don’t have the time for it. I’m usually lucky if I can spend 30 minutes on my phone getting news

FACTS!

(because the all knowing Vict0ar said so obv)

No. This is a dodge. Fox and OANN and Facebook and YouTube alt right commentators are much worse. Objectively so. Unquestionably so. Your comment is “both sides” nonsense and you need to stop thinking this way.

Not how I know more. But how it must’ve been some kind of cluster fuck fest when someone who’s a minority himself couldn’t stand to read any more of what he felt was people speaking for him

I mean it’s great to defend minorities and promote racial equality. Just like it’s great to defend women and promote feminism. It’s NOT great when you get so lost in the lecturing of others that you come off as identifying as the group you’re defending and think you can speak for them

And seriously… I’m not going off on some new other wild tangent over a simple comment I made about my buddy. It was meant nothing like the “hey look everyone! I can’t be racist cuz I got a black friend!” vein and I think you god damn well know that
