Are We In Danger Of Losing Freeze Peach (And Are We OK With That)?

The ole ‘I’m not a racist’ precursor

I thought that went without saying (don’t even know what OANN is), but obviously the Ben Shapiros, Rush Limbaughs, Tucker Carlsons, and the guy who’s name I can’t think of who sounds like he smokes a carton of cigs a day are far more egregious and disingenuous than CNN.

But now we’re almost onto what I really wanted to discuss ITT. How do we stop misinformation? Are they allowed to spew their garbage? I mean, sure they’re much more dangerous, but I kind of want to puke watching Don Lemon do his fake pauses, smirks and shaking his head eyerolls into the camera pretending that he’s delivering news too. Can the FCC get involved and require maybe a watermark on the screen to show that this are opinion talking head segments and not real news journalists? And do the same with FB, Twitter, YouTube and really any internet content?

I’m all for their right to speak whatever garbage they want to spew and if you tell me they shouldn’t be allowed, we’re gonna have a mess akin to what we just went through with the trans issue all over again. Because I feel very strongly about the right to free speech even if it’s wrong! But I would have no problem and would encourage a governmental agency get involved designating social media platforms as broadcasting agencies and requiring them to label their content

Edit: Just thought of his name. Alex Jones

Yeah you guys are geniuses. You should head on over to a Mensa only website. I bet you can teach all those people a thing or two. You’re wasting your (and everyone else’s time) here

What if they’re lying for their own benefit?

Edit: alot of your arguments turn on the presumption that all these conservative “ideas” are offered in good faith. They’re not.

wonder what brilliant intellectual content this post had?

It was 100% meant to say you had some great insight on our community as being clueless racists because your “black friend” told you so. No it isn’t directly the “I can’t be racist because I have a black friend” but it’s pretty obviously closely related.

Also it’s frustrating reading these threads because people here are kind enough to give you all the answers you claim to seek only to have you respond with right wing tropes.

That’s me! Full blown centrist!

Hey listen, like I said I’ve got this big work project that’s gonna keep me busy for a couple weeks. Why don’t you just post all my thoughts for me until I get back? Everyone got that? Everything Vict0ar posts until I get back is really me and all my thoughts. No one can do it better than him.

Thanks a lot dude. I owe ya one :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I didn’t say anything! I simply repeated what HE said!

WTF is wrong with you people?!

And of course, here we go on another long derail trolling expedition trying to put thoughts in my head if you had your way. Well troll yourself MF. I don’t have time for you

Lying is a right man. We just came off of 4 years of a president who lied every time he opened his mouth. We can’t outlaw lying even for their own benefit (not sure if you’re suggesting we do).

I believe people have a right to spew total utter bullshit conspiracy theories if they want. 9/11 was an inside job. Democrats eat babies. Whatever. We can’t make speech illegal even if it’s bullshit. We CAN make hate or inciteful speech illegal (you can’t yell fire in a crowded theater, and you can’t go around writing ethnic slurs on the sides of buildings, etc.). But are you really for silencing people just because they have batshit crazy ideas? Now that, I think is a slippery slope

There’s already a ton of law that prohibits misrepresentation for personal gain, but even setting that aside your absolutist attitude toward “free speech” is obviously stupid. You yourself were going to bat arguing against a Canadian law that doesn’t even exist. That happened because someone lied to you and you just latched on to it because you’re intellectually lazy. This is a serious problem.

Did you ever ask yourself why you think you just instinctively know that Don Lemon is “fake” because of his mannerisms but when you stumble across a disprovable conservative lie you just accept it at face value and move on? You have some very reactive uninformed attitudes and people are manipulating you by capitalizing on that weakness.

It’s not. The people drawing the plays may be preying on the ignorant, but they know damn well what they are doing when they draw the plays up.

Very true

Wanting trans people to do all the work is also a major problem trans people face. They get it ALL the time, from a varying range of good intent or not.

Those “SJWs” who “lecture” you are acting as allies because thats what trans people want. Some will do it better than others, but we are all learning. Online spaces are horrible for trans people, so do what you can to make them a bit bearable.

100% and applies to women, minorities, other LGBTQIA+ people, disabled as well. It’s a really depressing thing to witness.

I’m missing something with regard to your argument here. Whose “right to free speech” has been violated here?

Rich white dudes getting criticized for bigoted takes is one step away from Soviet fascism.

LOL

Of course you can. The Fairness Doctrine did exactly that for broadcasting companies. Removing it was one of the worst things Reagan ever did.

I think the idea is that the conservative voices that dominate the daily top ten most viewed posts on Facebook, that have a designated major news network that exclusively broadcasts their content, that receive sweetheart publication deals from book publishers, and whose views are discussed daily in mainstream media, are being silenced.
