Are military enlistees victims of the system, culpable for American imperialism, heroes, villains, or some combination of the above?

Irish doesn’t count? What other British are there here aside from you and Churchill? Geewhysee and pyatnitski? They both post politics.

Eta: that guy who makes jokes. Dlk9 or something. We could ask him why he doesn’t post in politics. I doubt it’s because of the anti-Brit sentiment.

lolol what’s that about Ireland? It’s a separate fucking country.

Marty is an intermittent politics poster, as are the two you mentioned, and the others rarely bother.

Any ideas why? I mean they left 22 for here - seems a little…odd?

Whatever. I’m going to stop poking the hedgehog.

lol

Hey, I post in the politics threads and I think england is the nut low country, even worse than the US. The only reason we have some better social programs is from the legacy of the post war that we’ve managed to cling onto and that won’t be around long post brexit.

At least america is basically honest that they hate the poor and think they deserve their lot. We actually pretend to be a civilised country that claps for carers and all that shit while giving an 80 seat majority to the worst human being alive.

First para is true.

But 40% had also voted for the most un PM-looking candidate in living memory only 2 years earlier and I know you know exactly why that turned around:

they preferred a Muslim-basher to an alleged but unproven Jew-basher

But re: the thread. I think if you’re tricked into military service because you believe the propaganda that’s not on you but if you’re still rah rah go usa after your first tour of duty that’s a yikes on your part.

We have socialist teeth. Don’t vote for Bernie again or you’ll have to do without steak forever.

I think the teeth thing is on you guys. Having a standard where you have to spend huge amounts and have painful procedures so that you’re able to dazzle aircraft pilots every time you smile is kind of weird. As opposed to just normal teeth.

I can be defensive about the UK and all sorts of other things I identify with (either through necessity or choice). Mostly I recognise it and delete the posts because who cares. I failed only yesterday and posted a bit of defensiveness only thinly disguised as a ‘joke’. We all notice the things that ‘attack’ us and skim over or miss the stuff that gets others, it’s just the way of things. I take that there isn’t a disproportionate anti-Brit/Euro sentiment here as an article of faith as it seems the most sensible way forward.

Mostly I don’t post in the politics threads as I don’t have anything of substance to add, as I’m not from the US and have no knowledge of US politics outside of what I read here. I started to read 2+2 politics in the rise of Trump because I wanted to find out what the fuck was going on over there. I still don’t know, but I’m still interested.

Seriously, what the fuck is going on?

Just bring back the Draft, then everyone’s a victim.

The irony is thick with this one.

I think the US needs an army because we’re going to need one to enforce measures to address climate change if we ever get our act together. (I’m looking at you, China.)

Xenophobic population.

Id rather not have an army or countries for that matter. But if we are going to have countries and we have to have an army to defend our imaginary teams borders it would be good if we practiced neutrality and non aggression. And stopped selling arms to others who dont.

Do they? Think most here know France and other Europeans carved up the Middle East and the Ottoman Empire leading to many of the conflicts there.

I mean France was one of the last out of the colonial game and ISIS had more grievance to them for Sykes–Picot than anyone else.
