Trump too

President Blames D.E.I. and Biden for Crash Under Trump’s Watch https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/30/us/politics/trump-plane-crash-dei-faa-diversity.html?smid=nytcore-android-share

Pete did a lot better than NYT

Trump, Without Citing Evidence, Blames D.E.I. and Democrats for Plane Crash

President Trump’s remarks, suggesting that diversity requirements and other policies somehow caused the collision of a passenger jet and an Army helicopter near Washington, reflected his instinct to immediately frame major events through his political or ideological lens.

That is some wishy-washy bs. Still matters.

You guys are really falling for the strongly worded mostly polite tweet here imo.

Pete should do what Trump would do. Tweet about how he is a fat incompetent orange clown who killed 67 people(actually say the words rather than beat around the bush) . Threaten to sue for Trump’s comments at the presser. Get some actual news or heat on it rather than what he did which was effectively nothing.

Yeah my immediate thought when Trump was talk about needing super-geniuses only in these job was that I’m sure the smartest people in the country are lining up for $120K jobs that are incredibly stressful.

I thought Pete’s statement was fine. Too strong today and you probably risk some dumb “tsk tsk” reactions that might muddy the narrative. But he leaned in a bit which is good to see.

Agree. Don’t have to adopt full Trump scumbaggery but like it or not going to have get dirty eventually. Take a lesson from Elon (not really from him but it’s one of those things he inexplicably gets credit for) and apply iterative design. We don’t need a perfect approach from the start. Take bigger risks, see what the effect is and go from there.

Gonna be a disaster when they find out that one of the controllers has Slavic phenotypes

I’m a huge believer in picking your battles. This isn’t one of them. 60 people just died. Today. There’s a time and a place. This isn’t one of them. Just because a dipshit like Trump can’t recognize that, it doesn’t mean Pete should stoop to the same level.

Sad to say but how hard you go probably also depends on what we learn about the controller on the audio. If he’s a whitey hired 2016-2020, you go HAM and never let up.

How about something like:
“Unfortunately do to the sheer incompetence of the current administration disasters like these will become more commonplace across industries in the country”

It is compact, it grabs people’s attention as it causes fear for their own safety, and it alludes to just how incompetent the trump government is without saying this incident is their fault.

Trump would obviously have access to all this info before he went out there.

Good point. But if it was a minority there’s no way IMO he would’ve have been able to hold back from specifically saying so.

I think that’s basically what we just witnessed.

It’s just the continuing evolution of the Southern strategy

Pete’s tweet was fine, but this isn’t a Pete-specific problem.

The problem is that there isn’t anyone in the Democratic party who will just be a complete asshole and say “Trump’s team of incompetent buffoons killed a plane full of people last night. This is why you don’t put corrupt dipshits in high positions in government.” and then go on about how he can’t even get the price of eggs down.

Seriously, is there a single Democrat at any level of government who would say something like this?

Republicans obviously have no problem saying these things. It’s mainstream in their elected officials and their media.

Democrats are frequently accused of having no spine, but they have no asshole. They need a few, badly.

Minus the swears, that’s basically what he said.

Hard disagree.

It’s a matter of tone and it’s entirely different.

Disagree but maybe we’ll find out in hindsight.

He was pretty general and I think they just decided DEI was going to be what they hammered. If it was a minority hired under Obama, there’d be all sorts of “I think you’re gonna find out a lot of interesting things about this controller…” or even more direct allusions.

The problem is the Democrat base isn’t nearly as insane as Trump’s.

Also I think even the most tuned-out people are clued into the idea that any systemic failures that might have caused this are much more likely to be the people who were just in power for four years vs. the people who have been in power for a week.

If the claim is Trump 2016 fucked things up, well why didn’t Biden fix it?

It’s just not a winning argument on any level.
