They care about their own reputations far more than actually having an impact. That’s why everything is some level of mealy mouthed nothing. Pete is better than most on this I’ll admit but he carefully manicured that tweet rather than blasting pure undistilled anger from the hip. The latter would get more attention and be far more effective. Dems still havent realized no one cares about decorum and they haven’t for a long time. It just makes you look weak and fake.
There’s another dimension, time. Trump is gonna fuck up over and over. Hammer him at every opportunity.
I haven’t been following this side argument that closely. But is that really what we’re bellyaching about here? That democrats aren’t nonsensically blaming Trump for something that happened 9 days into his presidency and the president most likely has zero impact on anyway?
No.
Not watching Trump ever again if I can help it but have Democrats scheduled an EMERGENCY MEETING for next month yet?
I wouldn’t put it that way but yeah. Disagree Trump can’t make things worse. He will.
What happened in the last one? Didn’t hear anything.
Of course he can make things worse and will. But do you really think 9 days into his term he caused this crash somehow?
I think I still don’t understand this argument.
Every helicopter pilot I’ve seen so far (including you) has said it’s very difficult to visually pick out planes at night with all the city lights, etc. Seems completely nuts that they get some info from ATC but otherwise have to rely on their eyes.
We’ll see what the investigation uncovers, but certainly seems possible to me based on the audio that the helicopter pilot didn’t realize there was any serious danger. Maybe he made a bad assumption because of the unusual runway and picked out the wrong plane.
Question: would it be helpful if ATC provided a more direct warning in cases like this? To be clear, I’m 100% not blaming them. But I wonder if instead of “hey do you see the plane?” they had gone with “hey man you’re on collision course with the plane, do you see it?”, maybe that would have alerted the pilot that oh shit I don’t actually see the plane.
That isn’t the argument.
Spoken like someone who hasn’t seen Ghostbusters II
Does the ATC have the flight data they would need to know whether the blackhawk was on a collision course? Or did they just know they were in the vicinity?
He had a negative influence. He’s closer to the cause than DEI. But that doesn’t matter. Making purely rational arguments is bringing a knife to a gun fight. Better start playing Trump’s game.
Yeah maybe not. I’m curious to hear from d10. Might not be enough time anyway. And I don’t know if they’d have altitude for the helicopter.
I would think at some point they’d realize the helicopter wasn’t going behind the plane as instructed. But maybe too late.
It’s not completely horrible, but it should say that elected Republicans in general and not just Trump are bad.
It’s much simpler to tie Trump, the head of the FAA, to the crash than Republicans in general.
Stolen from another forum:
Jan 20. FAA director fired
Jan 21. Federal hiring freeze including ATC’s
Jan 22. Aviation Safety Advisory Committee disbanded
Jan 28. Buyout/retirement demand sent out to federal employees
Jan 29. First American midair collision in 16 years
How could woke DEI do this
.
And for the record I find the disingenuous finger-pointing extremely distasteful too. But the other way has sure as hell not been working.
I think that’s where we failed in 2024. We barely made an argument on any level. At this point it isn’t about winning, it is about eroding confidence in the republicans. The meta message is “these guys are incompetent at best and corrupt assholes at worst” and we need to make that argument every god damn chance we get. Right now we are reacting to their messaging, we need to get them to react to our messaging.
