Depends on what you mean by “doing the colliding”. It’s probably the helicopter that was in the wrong assuming the plane was on a standard approach, but we’ll have to wait for more info.

Last time there was some guy who kept passing the life preserver to other people stranded in the icy water and they’d get lifted out by a helicopter. When it was finally his turn, the life preserver kept slipping out of his hands as he reached for it. He couldn’t get a hold of it, and died. One of the saddest thing I’ve ever seen.
