Mostly serious and I doubt that people here fundamentally disagree with me at core. If the standard is really just “the best thing that happened to be shown on television” then why didn’t anyone nominate the moon landing or that Superbowl what where the guy caught the ball on his helmet? All way better then Frasier imo.
I like The Simpsons and I get it’s place in modern culture, but I don’t really understand it taking down some of these shows. Has anyone ever anxiously awaited an episode of The Simpsons? Binged an entire season in one sitting? Been thoroughly depressed when a season ended?
Maybe I can understand GoT because of the last 2 seasons, but peak GoT is not even comparable to The Simpsons. If you clowns vote it over The Sopranos…
In college yes, it was our Sunday night viewing, which might be the last time I anxiously awaited any TV show. So you’re not going to beat that impact with me.
Yeah simpsons never peaked my emotions in any direction.
I was a kid when Who Shot Mr Burns aired and yes it was omg wtf time. Quite a cliffhanger.
I will die if we finish with Simpsons vs The Wire. Not because I think it’s unworthy, just would be surprising after thinking Sopranos would be in the F2 the whole tourney.
that those 22 minutes were the pinnacle of your TV viewing says more about you than the quality of the show.
The Simpsons are great, and is fair as a final 4 contender (maybe), but the show has a status around here that far exceeds its actual quality, especially considered over the entire span of its run
Dozens of times, yes
Yeah the Simpsons in the early to mid 90s were must see TV. I think this lines up with high school (me) college (suzzer) or middle school (early millennial crowd). The fact that it was the biggest thing for people in our age demographic during those formative years probably means it will be overrated by us due to nostalgia. In the same way Nirvana might be overrated by our demographic in an all time musical acts vote.
Rewatch is different from first watch, imo. Comedies always do better as a rewatch as they rely less on suspense and plot twists. If you know those things are coming in a drama, it completely kills it.
So on initial watch, Sopranos and Wire by a mile, but for a rewatch I’d pick the other two easy.
the sad thing is american dad has been top tier for longer and more episodes than the legendary simpsons s2-8 run. but the clowns itt won’t believe it
The Simpsons and Sopranos ending up head to head is appropriate as two series who while good, are more remembered for their impact on those who came after them than their overall quality.
Call me when the Soprano’s gets it’s own stamp… USPS wasted $1.2 million, 682 million stamps on Simpsons run
Probably not a great time to admit I’ve never seen an EP of It’s Always Sunny and was only vaguely aware of its existence.
Where can I watch this?
It’s on Hulu US.
Simpsons is an all time great but Sopranos losing here would be a massive upset imo. I have sopranos #1 overall(Wire close 2nd so we are doing well with this f4 imo). At least for me it changed the way i watched and thought about television and it was the point where television showed it could be the superior medium over movies.
You’re forgetting how old he is
