Its on my list. Im not entirely sure where to find it, but I havent sought it out yet
You write this like you’ve never really watched Leave it to Beaver, one of the most subversive and legit funny family sitcoms of all time.
I’ve watched Leave it to Beaver. Come on dude lol.
ONE OF THE MOST SUBVERSIVE SITCOMS is a bit over the top imo. I was an avid TV Land/Nick at Nite viewer for years back when they used to show stuff like this. I mean it’s good television but TPB is a masterpiece even in an era filled with them.
I again don’t think you understand what late 50s early 60s TV was like for you to disdain how subversive it was. The family sitcom genre has never been known as being subversive, and wasn’t allowing much like that in until the late 80s. It was subversive and is still a great watch today. They were likely forced to remove the Larry Mondello character because the world would have imploded having him and Eddie Haskell exist too closely together. Larry Mondello was the devil. Go back and watch it with a different lens and you’ll see.
Anyway, you’re right no one has seen TPB, I’m just saying to stop crapping on Leave It to Beaver. There are tons of match ups already between shows that should have all made it to the end, and many match ups have shows almost no one has seen either. Oh well. Also, you really gotta start learning different strokes for different folks in regard to subjective art. Be mad your team lost, don’t crap on the other team because you’re mad.
I mean TPB wasn’t going all the way and maybe I should be happy it almost beat LITB. So whatever.
I also think you are underestimating how much TV old and new I have watched and just assuming I haven’t watched older television which isn’t the case.
I don’t think in any world where every voter had seen both shows LITB is winning. This forum trends older (as is evidenced by some of the other nominated shows) and TPB didn’t even air in the US so of course it is losing. But I very much doubt it is losing on the merits.
Fwiw i would take LITB over pretty much all the 80s and 90s sitcoms posted outside of maybe Cheers.
Slow Horses is one of the best shows on TV now, featuring two oscar nominees
News Radio featured Joe Rogan and Andy Dick
I, too, am befuddled as to why this is even close
boomers
I don’t have apple tv so I haven’t seen Slow Horses yet and come on you intentionally omit GOAT Hartman.
Not only have I not seen Slow Horses, I never heard of it until now.
NewsRadio was hilarious.
This is the fundamental problem with a tournament like this. People are going to vote for a show they’ve seen vs a show they haven’t.
I abstained from matchups where I’d only seen one unless that one is an all-timer for me, i.e. I voted for Mad Men but not for NewsRadio, and I like NewsRadio well enough.
when is the last time anyone on this site sat down and watched 10 straight episodes of fucking leave it to beaver
FYP
heh I used to watch it every day after school when I got home, just flip to the Superstation and there it was, along with reruns of Gilligan, that other show featuring Beatnik Gilligan, Beverly Hillbillies, all those shows they used to rerun. Unless they were preempted by America’s Team the Atlanta Braves
i fuck with gilligan, but comparing that or beaver to canada’s greatest comedy show is silly.
That’s not how popularity contests work
The meta-arc of TPB starting with some youngsters fucking around with their camcorders in a trailer park to the last few seasons with Snoop, Tom Arnold and Doug Benson was certainly something as well.
Long live the Liqour Snurf
Here’s how large scale popularity contests work.
Per IMDB:
TPB 8.5
Beav 7.6
Per Rotten Tomatoes:
TPB 90%
Beav 75%
This forum trends US centric and boomer and it’s also a LOL sample size. You also only won by 2 votes lol.
Can you post these for every matchup so I know how to vote?
Thanks in advance…
I mean vote how you like but nun was lecturing us about how “popularity contests” work. Meanwhile the popularity contests over large samples have occurred and Beav got walked.
Most people here trend old and American. I’d bet less than 10% of Beav voters have ever watched TPB. Nun admitted he hadn’t after lecturing me about not watching Beav(which I have).
