Afghanistan Wars: The Taliban Strikes Back.

I know it’s not much. But I feel like this kind of mea culpa is new? Have we apologized like this in the past or do they just stick with the enemy combatants story? Like hopefully people are getting fired for this at least?

Yes I know we are still evil.

Biden said we were going to kill bad guys. Not even Trump could away with insisting we did.

They only did it because the strike was close to Kabul so the media could investigate, there was some attention to it, and the answers came out nearly immediately. Without a NYT AND WaPo investigation with clear answers they never would have said anything. Just kept repeating that US intelligence is the best ever and the US can’t verify unsubstantiated rumors.

No one’s getting fired or even a repremand. Back to business as usual in Somolia and where ever drones are.

I read this as a Maury Povich bit when someone takes a lie detector test and he’s coming back with the results

You say waste, I say Universal Basic Income for large multinationals. Corporations are people, too, you know!

Thanks, Obama.

Must still raise the pentagon budget by 10-20% every year though. No savings can possibly be had by being out of Afghanistan.

I saw this list earlier. Amazing. Oops wrong person replied to. Whatever.

We need at least 20% per year so the US can back into Afghanistan and definitely totally win this time. Don’t think about the money, just feel the embarrassment about America’s vaunted army losing a game. Do you cut the Chiefs payroll after they miss the playoffs, loser?

Clearly Afghanistan is sooooo last season but some good news. The pentagon has done a thorough investigation and has 100% impartially concluded that the bombing that killed 10 civilians was totally cool. Turns out it was just an oopsie.

“It was an honest mistake,” Said told reporters at the Pentagon on Wednesday. “But it’s not criminal conduct, random conduct, negligence,” he said

Phew.

i’m going to have some nice cognitive dissonance when i inevitably hear hawley, cotton, or brett stephen suddenly give a shit about innocent afghanis.

That will be a huge relief to those families.

I do like how the Pentagon gets to play the same game as Trump where look collusion isn’t strictly illegal so nothing should be done. I mean droning a family might not be illegal by the rules of war but you should probably shitcan the people who did such a bad job at intelligence

Lawbros: It seems a lot of shit could be unredacted, and there are much better ways of conducting such investigations in a transparent way that can give the people confidence in your findings.
Pentagon: Lol lawbros.

When you send the military over to do anything, no matter how good they are and no matter how good your intelligence people are, there’s a chance that they’re going to bomb innocent people. It may well be that these intelligence people were phenomenally good and that’s why they only murdered however many innocent people they did.

What you need is to not go there in the first place. Best option for that is to deny the military the funding to be able to do things like invade countries on the other side of the planet because if we build it, they will go and do it eventually. But, that ain’t happening either. America gonna America.
