Also very true.

Do you feel that the posters you have in mind act consistently with this supposed agenda?

All or them or some of them? How many bad apples make the effort not worthwhile?

No but I don’t feel I do a perfect job of this everyday either. None of us do. I have acted poorly to people like sabo, keed, Vic, jal, 6ix ect. For that I apologize.

Who are you talking about?

I havnt been a core soldier in the forum wars so it’s not really a fair comparison. That said, I’ve made my opinion pretty clear that everyone involved in the forum wars has acted poorly, across the board, and certainly more often than non-combatants. Nevertheless, I don’t believe motives on either side are purely malicious. Nor do I believe any poster cannot start acting better if everyone can honesty take ownership of their actions.

My perception of the situation differs greatly from yours.

I believe what I said is true for some posters and it doesn’t matter if it is poster A, B, C, D or E for the argument I wanted to make in my conversation with Clovis.

Well it matters in the degree. Are you just talking about a few intransigents or are you treating “the Captains” as a monolithic group with equal culpability in forum-ruining?

There are definitely degrees.

He had opinions that sometimes clashed with the thread orthodoxy and of the many posts he made a few contained links to a dubious source, while many bona fide sources he posted were openly mocked and derided by a mod.

It’s always about not agreeing with or showing due deference to the forum orthodoxy.

He was moderated more harshly than others and probably more than deserved. He also, frankly, acted like a dick in that thread enough that he was way more co-conspirator in ruining the thread than bullying victim.

Yeah its a feedback cycle, but posters still have agency not to fling shit around after every insult or slight.

I apologize to you as well.

I get your point but I think you’re demanding way too high a level of compliance to malignant posters encouraged by moderation.

Put yourself in the shoes of someone who begins posting genuine contrary views (many of which subsequently turned out to be better takes than the thread orthodoxy) and is met with aggressive mockery and derision. How long do you think your respect for these posters will last? Not everyone is as placid as keeed and neither should they have to be.

Wasn’t Churchill spreading outright misinformation?

I agree that thread developed a hubris and i had plenty of substantive exchanges with Churchill.

I just don’t think that Churchill as a positive poster/bully victim owed an apology is a real accurate characterization of what happened in that thread.

Probably have beaten this to death enough though, not trying to add to drama. Just struck me as not the first place is point to as grievance.

Thanks but I don’t know who you are. I Havnt kept much track of the changing usernames. :grinning:
