I’m not exactly sure what you mean or who you are talking about, but if you’re talking about Max, Cassette and Hokie, I take it you’re one of the people who more or less doesn’t notice who they are talking to on these sites and barely knew who they were for years and years. I guess this is Twitter for you, but do people on Twitter go around trying to ban accounts they don’t like?
Maybe anyone who has been banned should have to agree to no account deletion if they come back.
I’m talking about the one person in your post who isn’t the nicest around
You mean 6ix? Yeah, it’s not unfair to say he can be an asshole. He’s smart and interesting and challenging though and it’s a shame that this site is not up for it.
Account deletion is no longer an option because the current admin won’t do it and mods can’t so that’s not an issue.
You have to agree 6ix often, but not always, trolled in the most classic sense. He was often trying to derail conversations rather than advance them.
Just think how much this thread would be popping off if 6ix were still around
(that’s him in the top left)
6ix was especially talented at waiting until a conflict had pretty much burned itself out before popping in to fan the flames. Even then I liked his posting for the most part.
I also don’t know the full history of his evolving name changes but surely if he came back he’d be some version of 7 now, right? I can see wanting to avoid looking like a huge fan of the movie Seven so maybe he’d just jump ahead to 8 or something, idk.
Can we also ban ragequit anonymization?
6ix posts a lot in the crypto discord, can confirm he’s a good guy. But RE: Micro’s question about do people go around twitter trying to get accounts they don’t like banned I’m pretty sure the answer is an emphatic yes.
Part of his charm is he might go a month without visiting the forum and then start grunching his way through everything he’d missed
That also shouldn’t be too difficult to implement although the new trend is asking to be renamed to an arbitrary string instead of being anonymized.
You’re fucking delusional.
I don’t agree with that at all. He was abusive, and to people who were not trying to fight, but I think staying on point and digging into thing very deeply and precisely is what he does and people who just want things to be let go and left unclear often see that as trolling. And he often does that in a mean way. I do that too, but only with people I dislike. Maybe he just dislikes more people.
I said was!
(Not literally, but it was the tense… Above is an itysl reference)
Yea you have to take that whole sentence, you can’t just snip the first clause. I do not think I am one of the nicest people around anymore, at least not to everyone, and I did not object to Trolly saying that I’ve turned into an asshole. As I’ve said before in this thread, most folks here seem to believe that bad posters are born bad posters, and refuse to consider the circumstances that could have contributed to people becoming the way they are.
And re: Sabo and 6ix, I’ll just say that I also used to be a little annoyed by their posting styles. Eccentric seems like the right word for Sabo, and 6ix is just 6ix. I’ve since realized that they’re both very thoughtful posters who are usually making very good points that get missed by others that are not willing to engage with their style of posting, whether they’re annoyed by Sabo rejecting a premise entirely and using the word Donkeys a dozen times, or by 6ix grunching a week old post to point out an inherent bigotry in someone’s thought process or something.
They would be (and are) good members of a forum that is actually interested in broad discussion and challenging people’s ideas. I do not think this forum is that, so I don’t think their return would be well received here (and that’s assuming they even want to post here)
Do you believe in communication skills? Like as a concept
Of course. People can be better or worse at articulating their ideas in ways that others can easily understand and engage with. Next you’ll probably ask whether I think that means that they hold any responsibility for the response that others have to their posting style, and I’ll say yes, some. At some point we’ll have to get to the part of the back and forth where we discuss what we should do about that at the community level, to which my answer is “not bans.”
In theory, if this community is interested in political discussions that involve more than just reposting tweets and criticizing the Trump blunder(s) of the day, which I don’t know that it is, it is worse off without their participation, along with many of the others that have been banned or pushed away.
I’m fine with temporary bans at some point. I don’t really like permanent bans.
