About Moderation (old original thread)

This is a great post.

If we had all the same rules as 2p2 there would surely be no problems here.

Dear everyone:

If more than like 5% of your posts here are in “About Unstuck” complaining about things, please re-evaluate just what in the hell you are doing.

If you want to post here, post here. If you don’t, don’t. If you don’t like someone, don’t respond to him/her. Stop making stupid new threads that repeatedly get bumped to the top.

For fuck’s sake people, this isn’t hard.

Dude they aren’t Piggy. But yes trolls continuously arrive and have to be cleaned up. It’s the way of the internet.

Imagine thinking internet trolls and Piggy from Lord of the Flies have anything in common. They’re getting banned from posting on a website not being murdered. You guys are ridiculous.

I don’t understand how anyone can look at bullies and see them as the victims. You guys watch a group of people work the refs in the same way as the James Harden and the GOP and see them as the victims. It’s completely bonkers.

lebron works the refs way harder than harden and I love him for it

It’s easy to see what would happen if we implemented your plan of banning people you find annoying. You’re not just going to go “phew, those guys are gone, this place is great now”, you’re going to pick a new target who annoys you and eliminate them, too. Rinse and repeat until you’ve achieved a perfect utopia.

First they came for the trolls, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a troll.

This isn’t meant to be hostile — I don’t know or care if you yourself engaged in it — but the last 2 months or so has seen so much waving of the bloody shirt over CW that it’s hard to take this seriously. Jbro’s been around for almost two decades by all accounts. It doesn’t really stand to reason that he just suddenly became massively unreasonable and ragequit.

Right now you’re just gloating because he put you in your place so many times.

And what exactly is @zarapochka’s place

Almost no one does!

I hope jbro takes a break and comes back refreshed. I really like his posting and insight on things. I respect the fact that he spoke up about things even when they didn’t directly affect him. That’s the sort of poster we need more of.

I mean… yes? Doesn’t that make their concern more likely to be legitimate and not just anger over themselves being banned?

I was thinking about taking a break because of other people’s treatment. Not my own. Not that I’ve ever mentioned it in a post, you’ve weirdly mentioned it far more than I have. Like four times to my zero.

Flynn.

Honest question. They have clearly made their case at this point don’t you agree?

The community simply does not agree with them. It’s that simple. They have failed to make their case. I don’t see how it isn’t that simple?

Nobody should be run off, jal shouldn’t be banned if can accept that he failed to make his case and let it go now and I really hope jbro comes back. He is awesome and I really don’t see how he got looped into this whole mess.

How in the world was it ironic?

It’s a turn of phrase, no underlying meaning.

That’s not ironic? Wookie said 40% of the site were misogynists who didn’t care about women. Wookie actually responded to the post you’re referencing:

The fact that I also find this place increasingly intolerable doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the above.

It depends on what you’re referring to. There isn’t one single issue that the community in general is in broad consensus about and just some minority can’t accept that. Granted, there seem to be several issues of just that sort, but my point is that it’s nothing like as clear-cut and simple as you make out.

As an aside, also, I don’t like this increasing turn towards “You lost, now you have to stop talking about it”. People who wanted the c-word moderated lost, and they didn’t stop talking about it, and indeed now they’ve got their way. This is a message board. Talking about stuff is what it’s for. No-one has to read or reply to anyone and if they do, that just means they also want to talk about it.

I think jbro was more mad about mod decisions and behavior (that wasn’t directed against him) but he was probably also mad about the hordes of posts calling for banning anyone who complained about moderation.

I will admit that I’m not well versed enough in the art of Keeed to know when and how he is trolling, but I will attempt this logical exercise, because you made similar points about jbro -

If you think that ~40% of the people in your community are dismissive of woman, it makes a lot of sense to question how you can still be a member of such community.
The same principle applies to whatever very bad type of human behavior that X% is.

Deciding to not be a part of such community is a very understandable decision. If I remember correctly, jman said in that thread that he will leave the forum if the poll went against his preferred option. Keed might feel similar about some other decisions made. None of it is ironic.
