I don’t think Wookiee is status-obsessed. I think he has little patience for morons and bad posting and it’s clear that the mood of the forum is that such things should be tolerated more than he would prefer.
I don’t agree with the closure, but this mod action has nothing to do with wookie trying to increase status.
I see you’ve found a new target after running the cofounder of the site off.
If you go through some of his recent posts you’ll see why it’s a fair description.
No one ran your pal off here. I’m sorry for you that he decided to leave - hopefully he’s spending all his new-found time doing what he often said he needed to do instead of posting here ie making a better life for himself - and I hope, like me, you’re able to take the opportunity to reflect on your own part in the saga.
I don’t feel we’re ready to go more into it now but people here aren’t stupid and those that paid any attention could see what had been going on for a long time.
Your post first was just “fuck you”. You then edited it to be a quote of my post from months ago lol.
The thread was created because SK was suspected of trolling and it was shut down when it was realized that it only fueled his ability to do so.
If anyone really wants to continue the explicitly fruitless “discussion” rather than just yell at SK, which I assure you virtually no one does, it should go in the normal Trump thread.
If no one wants to talk to me about the thread topic wouldn’t things kind of work themselves out without the thread being closed? And the thread was broken off because it was a derail that many posters would find annoying in the main thread, why in the world should that conversation go back there?
edit: @jmakin poll should be public
Let’s just take a poll?
- Yes
- No

Seems how we always handle these things right
@anon10396289 i didnt wanna foment any drama. I am not a mod, but a mod can publish the results or take their own poll. I am just curious where people land here
I am shocked, shocked I tell you, to find you immediately jumping to agree with him, without pausing to consider that this is a troll of a fellow mod and maybe, just maybe, you should consider the way he addressed his point?
I did and I posted about that. I’m not shocked that you didn’t read that or confuse it with someone else or something. I still agree about closing the thread, as I think we’ll see most people do.
These kind of back and forths are why I instinctively want to bite my tongue and not wade into the fire — naturally playing the social, political game of not running afoul of others.
But, calling a spade a spade: When SK is pressed too hard and successfully on GG he responds with a, “so, what’s it matter to you?” And, when wookie has been pressed with why he wants to continue to be a mod here, the response is approximately the same thing.
I don’t think he’s a megalomaniac, but I think he does like to have the power to do what he just did and that’s why he wants to remain a mod. I enjoy him on every level, but it’s clear he still wants to retain some degree of power over the dialogue.
I don’t want to psychoanalyze Wookie, but if he calculated that he could increase his power by locking that thread, he is a moron, but he’s not a moron. It’s something he did that people can agree on or not. If people disagree with him and voice that disagreement and it’s clear that the action was not consistent with what the members of the site want and the action is undone, then that’s the system working and no harm no foul. Moderators should be responsive, but it’s absurd to expect them to perfectly anticipate or interpret community sentiment.
eta: Not arguing with you Dodger, just clarifying and expanding on my thoughts there.
I wasn’t really keying in on what you were saying so much as jman’s reaction.
But, when has locking and closing threads that community members are actively involved in been the ethos of this site?
What you’re saying is true but its something of a cop-out for this situation. A moderator can do anything arbitrarily and then it’s up to everyone else to react, which is happening now. That’s fine and understandable in a borderline case, but this seems like a flaunting of power that’s counter to how the community operates.
Damn it’s annoying waiting for the auction to close so I can post.
OK, far be it from me to stop someone jerking off to his own provocations.
What the fuck are you talking about?
No kink-shaming!
There’s nothing more to that thread than everyone telling you your criteria for “trying to seize power” is absurd, over and over and over, and yet you still insist on leaving it open for more people to do so. It’s just reveling in the negative attention at this point.
I agree the thread is terrible, hence why I don’t post in it. If other’s want to engage, I don’t see why we should stop them. I would support moving it to FrenchBBQ, but don’t see why an active thread should ever be closed.
You think the thread is dumb and pointless? Fine, ignore it. Who cares. My opinion is unpopular? No shit! Again, who cares? But you closed that thread in a fit of pique because, what? I wasn’t convinced by your masterful argument? So you threw a little tantrum and locked the thread.
Oh yeah, you really want to believe I was furious with you.
But no, I don’t think it’s a good idea to have threads that let animus fester, and I don’t think people should have their own little troll domains under the guise of “oh, just ignore it.” People don’t.
