I guess this opens me up to again being called a bootlicker by some but i think the moderation through the history of the forum and the recent conscripts has been pretty good. Not perfect of course but very very good considering these people are doing this out of altruism and not some sense of self-benefit. It’s obvious people are trying very hard and that deserves some level of respect regardless of if you think we should have mods at all.

This moderation decision feels like escalating #badfeelings, and I’d submit that maybe one of the posters banned actually made not even a “small attempt to discuss moderation constructively”. If you want people to just stfu, you need to say so. This ban was inconsistent with the standard you set and not helpful towards anything constructive imo.
If you want some sort of expectation for the posting in this thread, it should be clearly stated and consistently moderated. Otherwise you get the above. Banning 3 users at once for this is not something I think the community wants, or needs even. It seems like, to me at least, it was a failure of moderation not posting.

Unbanning victor when he was repeatedly saying false things and keeping wookie banned for pointing out these false things is making things worse, not better.

More broadly. How do you think we should moderate people who clearly want to keep the sniping going?
I liked the bickering thread with slow mode on, but consensus seems against it.
I’m sorry but this is bullshit. Wookie is talking about victors comments on moderation. This is a flat out really bad decision that has no positive upside. You’re dividing us further. I don’t want to say you shouldn’t be a mod or whatever, and I really don’t want to come off as insulting you personally, but I really dislike how this went down. At the end of the day this is our fault, not yours. Modding is a shit job because of us.
As for how to moderate this thread, I’m honestly not sure what’s the best course of action. I’m open to lots of ideas and trying various things.
However, what happened today is not the way to go about it. First of all, 2/3 people didn’t break the rule you imposed. Second, it’s an inconsistent sudden change. If you want to make a certain standard of posting in this thread by all means go for it, but you need to be clear and consistent. Suddenly adding rules when people annoy you is dumb.
Finally, we shouldn’t be banning three people from our community for such trivial bullshit. Mass bannings are rarely helpful and as you can see it caused 1/3 to not want to post here at all. And it was over basically nothing. It wasn’t worth it.

I watch this bickering from the sidelines for like several months now and one comment gets me the ban. Is my tongue that sharp?
It’s all good. My time is up fairly shortly anyway. I think theres value in having mods turn over.

This community should try an actual cite or ban policy. Make whatever claims you want, but if someone calls you on it and demands a cite, you better be able to find a receipt that says what you claimed it says, otherwise you’re eating a ban. Start with 24 hours and work up for repeat offenders.
Then instead of people sniping at others over what they believe to be a lie, they can call for a citation and hopefully it gets settled in a more civil manner.
There could also be a penalty for abusing the demand for a citation.
I think this would lead to the end of a lot of the trolling on both sides because dragging old shit up would require digging for old receipts.
