About Moderation (old original thread)

covid, walrus, personal wealth and food.

Politics is a team game online - same as talking about football online.

Tis a silly place.

Yep. I take the time and put a lot of thought into what I write, I take the effort to consider my words, to be clear, to avoid being inflammatory, and I still get a knee-jerk bad-faith response trying to score points.

Your pony died and went to the wrong thread.

Aha, wrong thread, ty

It seems there’s more than one here that needs caffeine.

OK, make that two knee-jerk snarky bad-faith responses.

Thanks for reminding me why the few times I’d dipped into posting seriously here, it’s felt like a waste of time. Because of people like you who have convinced everyone you’re Not Trolling when that’s all you do. You’re one of the biggest shit-stirrers and trolls on this forum, yet for some reason you seem to always get away with it.

I’ve always said a good way to keep a forum healthy is to have a small group of regulars who snark at and shit on anyone who expresses anything they’re not comfortable with.

I’ve tried to sincerely suggest what I’ve observed about the problems with the forum and what might be done about them, but when I get regularly get replies like this to my sincere posts, it makes me just not give a damn what happens to this place and feel like any effort I put toward it is a total waste of time.

Oh ffs, it was a joke. You complained about short knee-jerk responses and I responded with a 3 letter response, specifically quoting that one little snippet. Can’t believe that just got moderated.

Fwiw I took Jman’s ā€œlolā€ post as a joke. As in, doing the exact thing you were describing.

But maybe you have a history that suggests otherwise.

Edit: ponied obviously, never mind

No, that’s literally what I was doing, which is why I quoted only that portion of it. I’m sorry that I offended you (RC). I don’t have any ā€œhistoryā€ with RC that I am aware of.

Well, it’s hard to read it as anything but dismissive. Sorry if it wasn’t meant that way, but it seemed like the most obvious meaning behind it.

I approved the flag with my genitalia in my hand at the urinal at work so I wouldn’t think to hard over it lol. Sorry.

Ha ha! Impressed you can fit your genitalia in one hand. Nice multitasking.

I believe you when you say that it was a joke but I didn’t read it like that at the time. A good reminder that tone does not come across always on the internet. A reminder to both posters and readers.

I mean, from my perspective it feels like you came in to the convo with sweeping generalizations about most of the community here and accused liberals of being condescending and acting in bad faith. That’s going to rub people the wrong way even if it wasn’t your intention.

FFS he was responding to a post that had this quote in it.

Not only that I was responding to a ā€œsweeping generalization,ā€ but somehow, it ā€œseems I come in with sweeping generalizations about most of the community hereā€ when I go out of my way repeatedly to talk about my own personal experience, to make clear I’m not talking about anyone specific here, and I even talk about a lot of my personal experiences that have nothing to do with this forum. Like I said, I put a lot of effort into describing my own personal experiences clearly and without using inflammatory language, and someone still finds a way to take it personally and take shots at me over it. I guess it’s true that hit dogs holler.

I guess I’d let it slide if it was a one-time thing, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a good-faith post from Trolly.

Imagine I go into a golf forum and say ā€œI can’t even have a conversation here it’s so toxic. Golfers in my personal life experience are rude and post in bad faith —not specifically talking about anyone here, tho!ā€

You really think that’s not going to generate a flip response or two?

Just stop.
