Or you know you could take the opportunity to stay out of it for once as you fine well know your the main reason Marty disrusts mods here and with good reason imo.

Jman ain’t going to give you or anyone on the other side any satisfaction of any kind, same as wookie popping in to make yiur blood rise just by posting and quoting your posts.

They ain’t interested in resolving anything Marty… Imo.

:beers:

I have done zero IP checks and would never share poster info acquired as mod with another poster.

I refresh this site 10+ times a day and read all the bullshit. I don’t see why someone who effectively leeches entertainment/information from this community should be given a vote in almost anything. Leave the votes to the contributors who make this whole thing what it is. I voted a few times before but I don’t think I will in the future unless I become an active contributor.

I checked Read’s IP for the same reason I checked QRomo, ArizonaRonFromTucson, and brooktrout’s IPs: to determine whether they were valid posters or not. I went out of my way to only confirm that those posters were legitimate to avoid any kind of finger pointing at posters voting twice for whatever reason.

I outed you as Read because the thread had suddenly become focused on jman voting twice in the poll and it was clear that the arguing wasn’t actually about people voting multiple times, it was just another angle to grind old axes.

How reliable do you think the IP checks are if someone’s using a paid for VPN?

It’s really easy to see that someone’s using a paid VPN, and it’s pretty rare that someone does unless they’re specifically trying to cover up actions they know to be malicious.

Counterpoint: the people who post here all day are weirdos and they should not be listened to.

I doubt this is true for all VPNs. It’s trivially easy for people abroad to access restricted content from another country that breaches a commercial company’s T&C, for instance.

Are you saying that Unstuck has better IP detection than multi-billion dollar companies?

IP checks aren’t a magic bullet that will let us 100% confirm that posters are individuals but they do a good enough job considering none of this really matters.

No, I’m not saying that.

OK, so this was guff. Fine.

No, it’s not. You’re also leaving out the bit where big corporations may just not care if someone is using a VPN.

They care quite a bit if allowing people to make financial transactions from proscribed countries is against their operator’s licence.

Seems they don’t care all that much if any chump can google ā€œhow to vpnā€ and circumvent the elaborate operation you imagine they have.

There’s not much they can do about it. That’s the point.

People can and do circumvent those companies’ IP sniffing using the same methods that you’re claiming you can detect on Unstuck.

It sounds far fetched but maybe, just maybe, you’re not aware of all the VPNs in use here?

I don’t see the harm in it.

What was your 2p2 account?

I think mods should be free to do an IP check to find out and announce the results.
