The words “get fucked asshole” don’t just pop out of people’s mouths randomly. There’s either respect or there’s not. Goofy is at war with marty. So, yeah “get fucked asshole” should certainly be banned if it’s out of the blue, but if a fight, with no mutual respect, is already underway, banning the person who said it doesn’t help the culture.

This. Changes the entire vibe from people chatting to an argument and people walking on eggshells. It’s exactly the culture from 2p2 and it sucks and it’s why actually nice people here who chat about movies or music or whatever are loathe to talk about politics. That’s not all on CN of course. Lots of people avoided threads before he got here, but it’s the constant harsh judgemental throwaway posts that have bumped things up a notch to flip this place from fun enough to participate in to thinking about other places to chat for enough people that it’s making a big difference.

Just absolute blatant dishonesty. This defense of Marty after yesterday’s slew of posts is ludicrous. This isn’t good faith discussion, it’s working the ump. How in the hell do you think you’re actually making this place better micro?

If someone is a hypocrite, should it be bannable to point that out? If there’s a dispute over the alleged hypocrisy, should it be bannable to opine that it exists? No and no, right? I never liked the rule about ‘no personal attacks’ myself (it’s too broad), but regardless, if calling someone a hypocrite is a bannable offence then we need to drop the pretence that this is a place for discussing politics. Or discussing anything, for that matter.

Today has been enlightening to me. All cards on the table, I’ve never had an issue with the mods on this site. However, I did make some posts recently that stated that I felt a change in moderation could be a good thing for the forum. Earlier this week I received a PM from another user asking me if I would help continue to voice that cause and I accepted that request because I believed at the time that it was made in good faith and in the best interest of the forum.

So I put together an RFC to create a mod rotation that seemed incredibly likely to pass, and I got Wookie to unthrottle this thread because in a vacuum I don’t believe in them. And I did this all with a spirit of optimism and trying to push forward an agenda of change. And if you all could have just stopped bickering with each other for a few weeks like I requested it probably would have worked. You were all even so close to getting a new moderation system but you just couldn’t stfu for a couple weeks about all your petty grievances.

But nah, I’m not putting in this effort for this group after what I’ve seen today. Seriously, go back and read my posts and the effort I’ve put into trying to get you guys to try a fresh start and take an optimistic view on fixing this forum. In return I’ve been met with enough negativity and rehashing of the same arguments to cause me to lose interest in all of this. Frankly, if you all feel the way you proclaim in here I don’t know why you’re bothering to stick around other than to just shit on this forum as a whole.

To @MrWookie and @skydiver8 I want to apologize for any trouble I’ve caused you this week. I was sincerely trying to help, and I thought a break would be good for both of you(I still think it might be healthy but I’ll leave that up to you to decide). You’re both saints for putting up with this stuff for months. Feel free to temp ban me if this post is too negative or people feel it is attacking them, because it’s really not a big deal if you do.

Good luck to whoever tries to take up the mantel of fixing this place next.
