About Andor, and lesser Star Wars things

I mean yeah he lives long but even at 50, the kid is gobbling unborn babies like he’s got a cameo in American Psycho

And at this point he takes a nap right after he uses the force. If that’s still case in 10 years he wouldn’t last long against Kylo Ren even with 10 years of training.

Maybe at some point they can do a time jump and Mando goes after Luke for not dying in defense of Grogu.

Lucasfilm concept designer Paul Bateman recently took to Twitter to clarify the distinction between The Mandalorian season three and The Book of Boba Fett. Bateman stated that they are “two different shows” and promised that fans will be “getting both.”

I have The Last Jedi #2 among movies as well. I wish Rian Johnson has done the last movie.

TROS was such an incoherent mess that it did give me a tiny bit of renewed appreciation for TLJ for, like, actually attempting to be about something, and have themes and such. That said, I just felt it was totally inept in the way it went about it.

Agree. Adored Last Jedi. Love Rian Johnson’s storytelling sensibilities.

I hate to say so but they are right ranking Attack of the Clones above Rise of Skywalker. Who knew that piece of shit would finally be unseated?

I like RJ’s other movies, and I feel like in a vacuum (i.e. SW didn’t exist previously) this could have been an interesting movie about a group of good guys under siege, and an old hero who’s failed to live up to the legend built up around him but still eventually tries to make things right, etc.

I just think that in the context of the existing characters, he managed to make literally every wrong decision he possibly could. Throw in some things that instantly take me out of a movie (dumb kiddie humor, a forced surprise romance between characters that had no chemistry, etc.) and I’ll never not hate the movie with the power of a thousand dumb planet-sized Death Stars.

Like I guess I appreciate what RJ was trying to do…but it’s like an olympic diver doing the highest difficulty dive and then belly flopping, the multiplier doesn’t make much difference when you get 0.0 from the judges.

Really good points. I totally get why a bunch of people felt like they were betrayed by The Last Jedi. This wasn’t what they paid to see. The scene we got at the end of s2 of The Mandalorian is what they paid to see.

On the other hand, maybe the prequels and the new trilogy were the mistakes we needed to make in order to get to The Mandalorian. More stuff has been announced that looks to have finally figured out how to tell a satisfying new Star Wars story for modern audiences. Mistakes have been made, but everyone made what they thought were the best creative decisions at the time. We learned a lot with each failure.

I never felt disappointed by TLJ despite how directly it subverts (or disappoints) our expectations. I’d seen slavish fan service in the prequels already. Remember how fucking amazing it was to finally see Jedi DESTROYING all comers with full force powers? But the scripts were so bad that it’s very hard for me to go back and appreciate them even on their own terms. And then The Force Awakens was pretty good but holy shit, it was basically A New Hope with updated window dressing.

So when I went to see The Last Jedi, I felt ready for Rian Johnson to surprise me. Show me something new, because I have seen all of the “yay the Jedi are fighting” that will be fun without an amazing story behind it.

The Last Jedi is NOT the adventure I was hoping to see, but when I take the movie on its own terms, it’s fantastic.

Now if only I liked the Mandalorian, lol.

I mean I guess I’m hoping it’s mostly a matter of the genre they’re going for with each project. Obviously Mando is a Western, and maybe my problem is that I’m finding that formula pretty fucking boring. Hopefully some of these other projects will click better with me.

I like all the SW movies. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I think people overthink them. They have always had kiddie appeal like Jar Jar and the Ewoks. Or calling Han Solo a nerf herder, etc.

If you gonna criticize flaws in later movies, why didn’t people criticize the Death Star wasting time clearing the planet in order to blow up the moon instead of just blowing up the planet in the first place? Or that you can see the light coming from the blasters even though it travels at 186K miles/second? All that stuff is part of the appeal.

World building vs storytelling

I dont really get the people who say TLJ is great movie on its own or script or whatever. Its the second in a trilogy. If you only watched that film, you’d be absolutely fucking confused. Anything that kind of works in TLJ is undone in ROS.

One of the worst things about TLJ is why The Mandalorian has been great. In this show you go to a different planet every week and see good guys and bad guys. In TLJ they were just like “lol, there are like 100 rebels left alive and we’re going to kill off 80 of them.” It was the dumbest decision possible. It made the universe seem so small.

The mandalorian also just does a better job with its empire castings. Dudes look mean/fascist and act like it. This was not a case in the recent movies.
