About Andor, and lesser Star Wars things

She’s way less annoying than Ahsoka and Ezra were at the start of their shows (they got much better over time, though)

The second episode is very sweet. Big time “Star Wars is about family” vibes.

As for the surprise person, it was never really explained in the other show how he escaped Order 66, just that his master told him to run.

welp, Bad Batch episode 3 had one of the darkest scenes I’ve seen in Star Wars. Maybe not objectively so, but because it’s in an animated series…definitely NOT expected and that context makes it pretty savage.

One of those “this is a KID’S show?!” moments. Also, as a veteran, it hits different. Could go really deep discussing unlawful orders, etc.

Also…I have a feeling there is just no happy ending in this show for most of the characters. I foresee much heartbreak.

Your weapons. You will not need them. You have a talent for survival.

Bought this at an auction yesterday - only posted because I saw Star Wars and Mandalorian. Probably didn’t need to post this.

Speaking of Star Wars, I’m learning from the latest Citations Needed podcast that Deep Space 9 had an explicitly pro-union episode, directed by LeVar Burton. Great stuff. You don’t see that kind of thing much in TV/movies.

Finally got Disney+ - is there an order I need to watch the Star Wars shows, or all they all stand alone.

need a list of shows

Was planning to start with the live-action ones (Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, Mandalorian), unless people thought otherwise.

If you are including the animated, Clone Wars and Rebels should come 1st.

Edit: Dave Filoni started with these, and he’s one constant behind the good shows

Watch Clone Wars first. Watch Rebels and Bad Batch only after watching Clone Wars. Watching Clone Wars before Mandalorian helps, but you can survive without it. Watch Mando season 2 before watching The Book of Boba Fett. Watch Boba Fett before Mando season 3 when that comes out.

Resistance and Obi-Wan are stand-alone.

Rebels might be useful in watching the Andor series that comes out next month. I don’t know if it will be, but animated stuff has been making its way into live-action. Ahsoka next year looks like its going to build off of things that happened in Rebels and Mandalorian season 2 with a title character who is a main protagonist in Clone Wars.

There are guides like this one if you want to cut seven Clone Wars seasons down to essential viewing. Spoilers obviously and I don’t endorse it.

I agree with this, though I highly recommend googling “clone wars chronological order” and following one of those guides. The show was an “anthology” so the release order of the first several seasons is not the same as the order of the events in the timeline.

Also, after watching Clone Wars, give Revenge of the Sith a rewatch. CW actually made that movie better.

knowing when each show takes place helps with context, but i actually think watching CW, then RoTS, then Rebels, then Mando seasons 1, 2, then Book of Boba Fett is the way to go. Bad Batch can go anywhere, but in the timeline it takes place immediately after RoTS and the final 4 episodes of Clone Wars

Everything in TIMELINE order is this: Phantom Menace>>Attack of the Clones>>The Clone Wars>>Revenge of the Sith>>The Bad Batch>>Solo>>Obi-Wan (10 years after RoTS)>>Andor & Rebels (5 to 1 year before ANH)>>Rogue One>>A New Hope>>The Empire Strikes Back>>Return of the Jedi>>Mandalorian (5 years after RotJ)>>Book of Boba Fett>>Sequel movies

We’re not entirely sure when Ahsoka is taking place, but probably concurrent with or just after Mando/BoBF. There are some…interesting aspects that they’re bringing from Rebels that could really make the when of the Ahsoka show irrelevant.

Didn’t know this thread existed, but pleasantly surprised to see it.

Anyway, I actually decided to do a rewatch of everything Star Wars a month ago. I’m watching in exact timeline order using this as a guide:

There are little modifications like saving the final Clone Wars arc until after viewing Revenge of the Sith that enhance the overall experience, plus Clone Wars jumps around a bit so you’ll understand the order a bit better.

The only negative with that link is it includes basically every bit of material, but there are tabs to toggle off books/comics/etc. to make it a bit more manageable. Unfortunately, it will still include Forces of Destiny and Galaxy of Adventures, which are short clips on YouTube (I’ve been watching them and they’re ok, but nothing amazing), but it muddies up the timeline a bit and makes it more confusing to follow.

I cheated a little bit in that I skipped some of the terrible episodes of Clone Wars and Rebels, but they’re mostly silly Jar Jar or droid episodes that add little to the overall lore. I’ve watched every second of live action and about 70% of the Rebels/CW cartoons, and right now I’ve made it thru Empire Strikes Back. I’m most looking forward to Mando S2, as I think knowing those characters better from having seen CW/Rebels will make that a much richer experience.

On top of that, I’ve been reading a ton. I can’t recommend the book Darth Plagueis enough. It’s an incredible read and describes the events leading up to Phantom Menace and CW sooo well.

I also read Dark Disciple, which is a quick and easy read dealing with Asajj Ventress (who you’ll meet in CW) and Quinlan Vos. Asajj is perhaps my favorite SW character, and this book deals with what happened with her directly after her CW appearances.

There are a whole host of books I’m gonna get to soon: Leia, Shatterpoint (Mace Windu book), the new Thrawn trilogies, Ahsoka, Revenge of the Sith novelization, and a couple others.

A couple thoughts up to this point in the SW timeline:

I actually quite enjoyed The Phantom Menace. The dialogue is still f’n awful, but I think it’s quite a solid movie otherwise once you understand better the politics surrounding the film. Attack of the Clones still wasn’t much better imo, even with all the story being fleshed out. This may be a controversial opinion, but Revenge of the Sith was incredible and is probably my #3 film overall. Soooo much important shit happens in that film, it’s just nonstop OMG events in the overall lore of SW, and the super cringe dialog is contained to only 1 or 2 scenes.

The higher end episodes of CW and Rebels are some of the best stuff ever produced in the SW universe. I’ve heard from others who have seen everything that CW can be a bit grind early in the series, but if you just do as I did and only watch episodes rated 7.7 or higher on IMDB, then I think you miss very little and get to watch all the amazing stuff that happens in this and Rebels.

Solo was still so so, I don’t hate it as much as everyone else, it’s enjoyable for me, but nothing amazing. Obi-Wan I didn’t need to rewatch so soon, and nothing I watched really added to the story anyways, other than knowing a bit more about The Inquisitors.

Bad Batch, unfortunately I’m saving this to the end. I hated these characters in CW, so I don’t have much desire to see a series devoted to them. I’ll prob get around to this series a bit before S2 starts.

That’s all I can think of right now. I’ve always loved SW, but decided to go full nerd and rewatch almost the entire lore and read a bunch of books/comics to fill in the gaps. I haven’t regretted it one bit and the books have been incredible reads as well, so I’ll have plenty of material to keep me going for awhile.

Yeah, the animated shows just give everything so much more context. It honestly helped me enjoy every other SW property more after having watched them.

The Darth Vader comic is also really good.

Yah, I read the Maul: Dathomir 4-part comic series and am making my way thru Vader. I’m far less interested in comics as a medium, but they’re still pretty good, and it’s cool to read what Vader was up to after getting knocked into space at the end of ANH.

Agreed on phantom menace. Attack of the clones is way worse. I overall still prefer the prequel trilogy to the sequel trilogy. The prequels at least had a semi interesting story but just horrendous execution (scripts and acting etc)

Also on this, there is a podcast I enjoyed called star wars new canon book club where they discuss a lot of stuff post Disney canon changes. I often don’t agree with their viewpoints (they for the most part frothed last Jedi for example) but it’s fairly entertaining and gives a concise run down of a lot of the content.

There’s a great series coming out now called Icons Unearthed that gives a deep dive into the making of the early films. Highly recommended if you aren’t watching. So far 4 of 6 episodes are out. You really see that Lucas is a genius in many aspects, but completely clueless in others. I think he just had way too much free reign in the prequels, and you get the sense that they could’ve been every bit as good as the OT if Lucas had stayed in his lane and allowed others to write the character interactions.

Thanks, sounds like a really great listen. Luckily, it seems like Filoni and others are pretty wise in the fleshing out of new Canon stuff, and instead of ignoring all Legends stuff and going in their own direction, they’ve started incorporating a lot of the better stuff. If anyone wants an instant classic movie/series, just make something based on Darth Plagueis and/or Palpatine’s rise from teen on Naboo to powerful Senator in TPM (and Sith Lord). There’s endless gold there.

I think if you rewatch the movies using Machete Order, with the prequels fitting in as a flashback between ESB and RotJ, most of Clone Wars slots in very well between episode 2 and 3, but you should probably watch the last season after RotS, with it containing some events that occur at the same time as the movie.

Bad Batch has to follow the story arc focusing on them in season 7 of Clone Wars.

Just rewatched Return of the Jedi. Is it just me, or would this movie be absolutely shredded if held to the same standard as the sequels/prequels?

Some of the faults off the top of my head:

-Nonsensical plan to rescue Han punctuated by Boba Fett’s absurdly silly death
-Not really any new environments besides a forest. Just a return to Tatooine, returning Death Star, etc.
-Acting is considerably worse, Luke and Leia seemed coked out, Han seemed uninspired. Script filled with more goofier humor than 4 and 5.
-Ewoks, not much more needs to be said
-Trying to get into the Endor base, and can’t do it, but Han suddenly has a plan to draw them out a secret back door, and then the Ewoks are waiting to ambush them, and the “elite” troops guarding the base just instantly surrender to puppets.
-Luke/Leia sibling thing is clearly shoe-horned in and makes the first 2 movies have some cringy, incest scenes.
-Why do the Emperor/Vader even “need” Luke anyway? Just kill him and the Jedi are gone with noone left to train other force sensitive individuals.
-Luke uses his anger at the idea of Vader turning his sister to the dark side to overpower Vader, but then once he’s subdued him, he just gives up and allows himself to be killed…which will allow them to turn his sister to the dark side. The thing he was so adamant about preventing 30 seconds ago.

Anyway, it just seems like not a whole lot happens. You have the weird Jabba rescue, the forest, some space battles, and Luke/Vader/Emperor.

The last 2 are great and what keeps this a very solid movie, but I’d have to say that after an unbiased rewatch I’d have 3 as quite a bit better than 6 in the rankings.

Of the 6 I’ve rewatched:

5 >>> 4 > 3 >>>>>> 6 >> 1 >>>>>>>>>>>>> 2

1 is far more enjoyable if you get the whole backstory from reading Darth Plagueis. 2 can’t be redeemed, no matter what.
