Luke Ex Machina is a high water mark for the franchise not seen in 40 years. And I say this as someone that thinks The Mandalorian is formulaic and basically straight fan service.
They had to establish that Luke was well above Mando in his ability to protect Grogu, so that it was a no-brainer for the kid to go with the Jedi.
necro-ing this, but if you watched Rebels, you learn that fighting with a lightsaber takes a lot of training because itās more like a martial art than just using a sword.
makes sense since it has no real weight.
But theyāre just droids! Theyāre not trained Jedi or Sith. He should at least be able to take out some of them! And heās pretty good at martial arts!
So was Sabine Wren, and she had to trainā¦and failed a lot.
Who knows? Itās space magic!
It also takes a lot of training because itās trivially easy to decapitate or otherwise dismember yourself with one. Thatās why you rarely see non jedi wielding them.
But they are super strong. Without the anticipation of a Jedi, and the force push/pull, Mando gets whacked around pretty easily.
I donāt know, man. Rey and Finn seemed to do OK.

This is a sore subject with me and the Oscars. The fact that there is still no stunt coordinator category at the Oscars is criminal in this day and age, when often times, stunt teams define entire films. I have lots of friends in the industry and they get a raw deal with recognition and awards. Good on SAG for recognizing stunt teams.
With how popular Corridor Digital is getting on youtube I wouldnāt be surprised to see that change soon.
fuckinā A, boys!
Being a true Star wars nerd, I was looking forward to The Bad Batch, and it did not disappoint. Their choice of antagonist is actually fairly brilliant, and sets up some potentially intriguing storylines down the stretch.
I would say, if you havenāt seen The Clone Wars and Rebels, you will be fine watching this, as thereās enough exposition in the first 70-minute episode to provide a broad overview.
I would also say that The Clone Wars and Rebels are both entirely worth it, and you should watch them if you like Star Wars shit, and also if you want to understand all the references in the rest of the Filoni-verse shows going forward (which includes The Mandalorian). But mainly because they are great shows. Yes they start out lighthearted, to hook the kids, but by season 2 of each, they jump right into more mature themes.
So too does the Bad Batch. The darker elements are there in the first episode, so while there are ākiddieā moments, overall it has more in common with season 7 Clone wars as opposed to season 1. In true Filoni fashion, there is a heretofore totally unspoiled reveal in the first 5 minutes of the episode that literally no one knew anything aboutā¦another one of those things that I was impressed at their ability to keep a secret. Not Mando season 1 episode 1 baby yoda reveal level, but close if youāre a fan of the other animated series. I yelled pretty loud.
As an added bonus, itās already pissing off the gamergate toxic star wars fans because it has a gasp GIRL CHARACTER oh no why does Star Wars have to be so fucking woke get yer politics out of my Star Wars I just know Filoni was forced to write this girl in by Kathleen Kennedy because she is the devil argle bargle bargle.
Also, Iāve noticed that Dave Filoni likes to make giant plot points hinge around things that happened multiple seasons (or series!) prior in a 1-off stand-alone episode. This has emerged as a pattern. Hell, it looks like something presented in one episode of Rebels is one of the major themes/basis of the new Ahsoka Tano live action show. And that Rebels episode relied heavily on a short arc from The Clone Wars. Iām sure heāll do it in a way that doesnāt rely on the viewer having been as big a nerd as I am, but itās also knida neat.
Didnāt even think of this and now I have to see if they also flipped out because they voice actress isnāt even white.
Argh, that article spoils so much, including the nice surprise I mentioned in my post.
Also.
Jesus fucking christ on a cracker. Iām pretty deep into the Star Wars fandom and I havenāt seen anyone, literally NO ONE, on any of the medium-to-large fan sites or youtube channels complaining about this. Not even the POC creators, lest you think Iām in a white fandom bubble.

Ah yes, that explains it.
So tired of these ānerd mediaā sites picking out fringe sources and reporting like they represent the entire world. They did the same shit with the RWNJ youtube channels bitching about Gina Carano, and they repeatedly post articles that outline entirely unfounded āshocking rumorsā about strife in lucasfilm, and other nonsense.
Iām going to ask my editor friend who works at Disney about this tomorrow. He knows more about shit like this than anyone I know.
To me, it just looks like an artifact of the vastly-improved animation and lighting techniques they are using for this show.
A lot of EP 1 of Bad Batch felt like catching up.
I figured they made them look different so the casuals can tell CLONES apart. ffs.
Was shocked by the appearance of the āsurprise personā. I have no recollection if he knew the BB in other series. I trust they follow continuity fairly sharply.
2nd thought after seeing she was an ongoing character was this idiot reaction.
First was, of course: dammit, another annoying star wars kid
Ugh just looked up the timeline for all the new series, so the only thing weāre getting this year thatās not a cartoon is that Boba Fett thing? I wasnāt a Mando fan at all and it just feels like itās gonna be more of the same.
