Abolishing the Police

Are you only aware of cops in the US and Mexico?

here’s the thing, since you literally disagree with everything about it and there’s 200+ other countries that better fit what you believe–why would you stay? The forum doesn’t want to talk to people that disagree with them anymore but you also want to live with them? I just don’t get it.

It’s not a magatard comment–it’s one of legitimate confusion.

This is a scene from a movie that I saw in my would-be cineaste teens that didn’t jump out at me at the time, but did when I re-watched it years later:

It struck me how far things had drifted from the point where you could have a scene in a film where a guy starts chanting in reference to a prison uprising and plausibly have the crowd pick it up. And I guess now it strikes me that the scene is wildly implausible, because he’d never live to start the chant lol.

Phase I of “Abolish the Police” has begun

TNC unabashedly voting for JOE.

Seems optimistic that JOE will GET THINGS DONE.

This guy is alleging they are resigning because the cops aren’t going after the protesters and looters hard enough.

You don’t understand why somebody would fight to make their home a better place?
You do understand that other people have like friends and family they care about and stuff?

Jesus moyher fucking christ.

It’s like they’re self selecting in the best way possible!

Conclusion of this article:

My honest answer is that I don’t know what a world without police looks like.

Convincing as fuck.

looks like US mayors DO negotiate with terrorists and the terrorists always win

About neurosurgery, yes. About a lot of other topics, hard disagree.

We’re yet to get an answer to this incredibly basic question.

Mmm.

No they aren’t. That’s not what “abolish” means. The slogan is not “disband”, “replace” or “rebuild”. “Abolish the death penalty” doesn’t mean “let’s come up with a better way to execute people”.

So not abolition, but replacement with a better law enforcement alternative. If you actually have a good alternative, you should be able to answer basic questions like “what happens if someone is the victim of a violent crime”.

Instead this is you right now:

“ABOLISH HEALTHCARE!”

Err OK, but what happens if someone gets sick?

“Well I can tell you what DOESN’T happen! They don’t get landed with a $10,000 hospital bill! There isn’t racist healthcare like ‘crack babies’ being taken from black mothers!”

OK but map this out for me, let’s say I get cancer, how do I get treatment?

“Dude LOL you are so arrogant there’s been research!!! I don’t have time to explain it to you! Read one of these 17 books!”

M4A proponents are not like that, there are specific answers to these questions which can be clearly explained. What you have with “abolish the police” is not a political position, it’s an empty slogan. Behind it lurks 100 different mutually exclusive positions. I am unable to present you with the drawbacks of your specific proposal because you refuse to get specific about what it is. You are able to enumerate the drawbacks of the current police force because it’s a thing that actually exists. This doesn’t qualify as winning the argument.

How is “what happens if someone is the victim of a violent crime” a stupid question? It’s extremely straightforward and specific.

The police determine who committed the crime, arrest them, charge them, and they are prosecuted under a trial system.

Note that I’m telling you what is SUPPOSED to happen, like specifically which people are empowered to do what, but under this slogan you have, you can’t even do that. You refuse to even attempt to do so because you know that it’s going to sound ludicrous.

OK, let me rephrase. Under “abolishing the police”, what is your PROPOSAL for how a violent crime against someone should be dealt with? My proposal is that we have a written law which specifies what crimes are and how they should be punished, and that there should be a state-run body tasked with apprehending people who violate these statutes and handing them to a court system for justice to be carried out. What’s yours?

OK, the question “what would happen” was a bullshit one because reality frequently doesn’t match the proposal of how something ought to work. Conceded. With that out of the way, what’s your proposal?

What Happens Now:

Well, if the victim of a violent crime is a person of color or an unattractive woman, there is likely a cursory investigation and if the crime isn’t solved in the first 48 hours, the perp likely goes free.

If the victim is a white child, a Netflix special will be produced.

If the victim is an attractive young white lady, the investigation will dominate the news cycle for months.
