Probably because she is?
Honestly, I have no idea but I’d rather have a PM at music festivals than “partying” with billionaires at fundraisers.

SOCIALISM!
lol good luck with that
Seems like Sweden took a right turn. Wont bode well before Italy votes later this year.
A formal declaration from the EU is probably less damning than vociferous praise from Tucker Carlson. Once the Bow Tie Nazi is singing your praises, I know what I need to know.
I believe it’s the first time the EU had made such a declaration. I wouldn’t overestimate its effect, but it’s not a minor thing.
Czech Republic has the first round of muncipal elections today and tomorrow.
I wanted to vote (EU nationals can vote in municipal and EU parliament elections in the Czech Republic) but fucked up by forgetting to add my name to the voter rolls. Thought I’d just show up with my ID card, rodne cislo and be good but that’s not the case for EU nationals that aren’t Czech.
Anyway, municipal elections are like midterms in America in that they’re a barometer on what the people think of the current government. A third of the Senate is running for office and a whole load of local positions in Prague and other cities are up for vote. ANO and SPD are banking on a right-wing wave coming. I’m not sure if that’ll happen but I wouldn’t be surprised to see ANO increase their power since things haven’t been going great for the coalition.
Doubt anybody representing the leftist coalition I would’ve voted for will make it to the second round of elections.
So, how did the municipal elections go?
Well, ANO and SPD gained in the small cities and towns. There will likely be coalitions involving those parties there. So yeah, far-right coalitions in tiny areas is definitely an omen for future federal elections. The ruling coalition stood strong in Prague, Brno, and a few decent sized cities. For me, my life won’t change in the foreseeable future. I think the major negative will be that the new mayor will not be from the Pirate Party but rather ODS and he really, really likes cars. He basically wants to redesign Prague as an American city which is gonna suck a ton.
What sucks (and what was expected) was the lack of any viable left-leaning movement with the destruction of the old left parties (Social Democrats and Communists). Sure, The Pirate Party exists but they don’t have actual power anywhere aside from a bit in Prague (though that will likely change after round 2 of the Senate). Here, we have a center-right coalition and a cult of personality with far-right connections competing with each other. It’s honestly not too different from the Democratic Party and the Republican Party in America.
In case anybody wants to experience the dread in real time.
I, for one, welcome our new fascist overlords.
I also welcome them, preferably with a shotgun.
It looks like Milan is right-wing, though?
It’s in the same right-wing alliance as the League, formerly Lega Nord which was a Northern elitist party (and I think separatist party) which I think still has it’s power base in the richer Northern Italian states.
Check out Sweden though - young people overwhelmingly the most conservative demographic (58-41) while 65 and older the least conservative (44-53).
Wait. So Miss Wannabe Fascist in Italy campaigned on restoring emphasis on family and religion and her victory party prominently features…the former president who was banging underage prostitutes? JLawOk
This is standard conservatism. A major structural advantage they have is the willingness to horse trade “values”, this gives them much stronger political alliances than liberals who fall back instinctively on purity tests all the time.
