Yeah that makes no sense to me. That’s just a result of a runoff system against a hated figure. Ranked choice voting is very democratic and would result in much the same effect

That’s no surprise. Macron almost certainly isn’t even the second choice for a Melenchon voter.

Ok ok, but part of my point was we don’t have a president, which seems like an active negative like…everywhere?

Which is also great!

…ish.

Today were elections in Germany’s largest state of North Rhine-Westfalia.
The Social Democrats (SPD) with a historic low showing in what once was their stronghold. Their traditional base of heavy industry workers and coal miners has diminished over the years and the party really failed to offer much to their voters resulting in a steady decline.

I’m sure there is a lesson in there for the US Democrats.

WE MUST DO MORE TO WIN OVER REPUBLICAN VOTERS BY BEING REPUBLICAN LITE!

A relevant Green Party? That’s remarkable.

Since their founding in 1980 they have slowly but steadily increased their constituency. They are part of the current federal government coalition and had been from 1998-2005.

Looks like they didn’t do so hot yesterday either. The parties that did do well were the CDU (center right) and the FDR (centrist).

In Canada their relevance is hamstrung by the electoral system. In a more proportional representation system they would always have more seats. Of course, these days proportional representation would also results in a bunch of parliament seats for something like the Traditional White Values Party or something.

The FDP lost half their votes compared to the last state election. The greens tripled their result.

and for the first time they outright won districts

At least one country is doing well

Orban taking another step towards full blown dictatorship using Ukraine as a pretext

The least surprising comment I’ve ever heard from Orban

Yeah, this quote:

is major Ineffectual Centrist Brain stuff. The Nazis know exactly what they’re supporting, and they always have.

Why does it look like she’s partying in a home rented by poor college students?
