2025 LC Thread

We had tornado warnings two nights ago in the South and now it’s 33 degrees.

Your temps will be rising in the next 10 years, just be patient

Every time someone posts LA’s weather forecast it turns me into a YIMBY. Everyone deserves to live in perfect weather.

I’m from Boston and for a long time did the thing where I pretended that I missed the winter and that liking it out here is weak. It’s not, this is just objectively better. I can go visit the snow and then come back here. If I never scrape ice off a windshield ever again it will be too soon.

I could live without winter tbh, but endless sunny days would be somewhat oppressive and depressing to me.

As the crow flies, what are you, 5 miles from snow right now?

Yeah but fires

This. I need seasons. We lived in Salt Lake City for a few years, the first year we were there I barely saw a cloud from end of May to September. I fucking hated it

I didn’t like the city either, so that didn’t help

Flew from Spain back to Prague yesterday and holy shit what a wake-up call that was. Going from 22C to -5C was pretty brutal. Gonna go down to -11 in Prague tonight and -12 the next two days.

People here think we’re famous for weather variability. I don’t totally buy it. But f winter.

Being from Wisconsin, we didn’t mind the SLC winters. Except for the air pollution

I think if we had the $ to have a house in the Avenues or somewhere else higher up we would have been much happier

I’m Avenues adjacent. Walking up City Creek Canyon is my daily anxiety relief. Some winter days with inversions are disgusting when you look down into it. I came back here bc I thought housing would be cheaper than Phoenix. Lol me

And also there was a girl. Double lol.

We can remain Canadians and snuggle to stay warm.

Looking for suggestions. I want to record and transcribe conversations with my grand father. The conversations will probably be 30 minutes to an hour length, but probably a lot of them, all taking place over the internet. Looking for something that can record the conversation and save as an MP3, and transcribe the recording. All preferably for free but paying isn’t a problem.

So far my plan is to get Google Premium and record the conversations though Google Meet, have google transcribe them, and then use something to rip the MP3 from the MP4, but I feel like this is an already solved problem that I don’t know the best solution to

For recording, Audacity is pretty good and free. Lots of tutorials on yt. I’ve used it for years. There are free plugins for transcription but Idk how well they work. Example

I don’t have any advice as I didn’t transcribe anything, but I did something similar with my grandmother and it was terrific.

Sort of funny story - both of my parents passed away long ago (this is not the funny part). My grandmother (maternal) was telling me a story about someone else’s wedding, a cousin or something. When she was done I asked her if she could remember anything about my parents wedding, she said no, she couldn’t.

My aunt, who was in the next room, chirped up, “Oh I remember something. I remember we were at the reception and your father’s youngest sister said something about how your dad’s father wasn’t his real father, and I just thought that wasn’t something you talk about at a wedding.”

That’s how I found out my dad was a bastard!

There’s that, too!

So, with LA traffic, that’s like 17 hours by car?

The #1 biggest traffic nightmare I’ve ever had was driving up to Big Bear from LA on the first good snowfall of the year one year when the kids were little.
