I wear my ear buds shopping. I’m not taking them out to drive 4 blocks to a different store.
I legit blame those stupid ass housewives shows for this
Why?
It’s a reality show staple. Back in the day they did it on The Apprentice, which I think came before most of those shows.
Because it’s more interesting to walk around the grocery store listening to a podcast than not.
Fair enough. Out of curiosity where does your Airpod case live during the grocery store trip?
I mute whatever I’m listening to when I go in a store for better situational awareness.
In my pocket
this is big “how do you do, fellow humans” energy wtf
oh so you enjoy using your airpods to LISTEN TO THINGS? REALLY? Well ok smart guy WHERE DOES THE CASE GO???
I like Melk and I always enjoy his JAQing about normal things, but yeah sometimes it’s really clear he’s an alien AI trying to figure out the most basic human stuff.
Said with nothing but love Melk.
I definitely carry my phone’s wall charger in my pocket at all times.

It was just weird to me that taking them out of his ears and putting them in his pocket was too much effort.
It would have made more sense if his case was at home or whatever.
After years of the same stuff I put him on ignore.
If you’re still reading those posts I’m happy for you or I’m sorry that happened.
So the thesis here is:
- Remember to take the airpods out before I get in the car
- OR dig into my pocket to get the case while I’m in the car
- Take airpods out and put them in the case, risking one dropping between the car seat and the console, which is always fun
- Wait for car to start and bluetooth to do it’s handshake before it will start playing, maybe fiddle with some other settings
- Drive 4 blocks from Trader Joes to Vons
- Turn off car, which kills podcast
- Exit car
- Take ear buds back out of case, put in ears
- OR remember that I left the case sitting on the console of the car, go back to get it
- Wait for airpods to handshake with phone and wake up phone
- Start listening again
Is easier than:
- Leave airpods in for 4-block drive?
Melk being on someone’s ignore list is more bizarre than Melk and his extra-terrestrial origins.
You’re always listening to a podcast when you drive? Always? (Not being nitty - 90%+ counts)
Sometimes music. Depends if there’s something interesting I want to listen to and how far I’m driving. But I never listen to music grocery shopping, or with the ear buds in general, unless I’m hiking up a mountain and need the motivation. The sound is terrible for music.
I also walk 20 miles a week or so. And for that it’s podcasts or audiobooks. The airpods changed my life on that, made walking fun.
walking is the key to longetivity, in my opinion. since cardiovascularly and calorically the body treats fast walking and running as basically the same, if you have time to walk and have mobility issues, walking is way better long term on your knees. I can run for the first time in 20 years now and have chose to mostly stick to aggressive walking routines like this and have felt much better for it and much worse than when I do not. Unfortunately not a lot of cities are safely walkable.
