Founded in 2013, Helion is in the news thanks to a $425 million funding round, backed by billionaires like Sam Altman and Peter Thiel.
We need to ask Elon if they really have the money.
There were over 40 fusion start-ups as of a year ago, with total funding >$7 billion. One of them might eventually succeed. Idk if there’s really any reason to bet on these guys over everybody else.
I’m at the point of hopelessness for humanity that I think it would be bad for a lot of us because the monetary benefits would get hoarded by small group of people and l, despite having limitless energy, they would use that economic advantage to make their lives better at everyone’s expense. Or there would be some massive wars.
Just the fact that they are not sharing results of their latest reactor puts them very much in the not going to happen anytime soon category. And with anytime soon I mean 30 years. The gap from having fusion for a short time to having fusion that produces enough extra energy to power a small village is huge.
I just don’t think there would be that much of a market for virtual power plants and distributed resources when there is a whole bunch of generation, but you’re probably right and we’d find a way to fuck it up and makes things worse.
Depends on how savory you’re talking. My local place always has flavor that sure sounds savory based on the description, but probably barely qualifies.
I’ve seen what appear to be legit savory ice creams on those competitive cooking shows where pros have to throw something together in an hour or whatever. I was at a restaurant that had something like that on the menu once, but I didn’t get it.
There’s a place in Bar Harbor, Maine that does lobster ice cream. It’s actually pretty good, just a feint lobster taste with butter pecan. The chunks of lobster are fairly large though, I think your brain is tricked into thinking it’s fruit.
