It lowers the value of their existing properties. Reduces their views. Don’t want more people (read non whites) in their suburb. Not enough place in local schools. The excuses are endless and state government has to push new developments through but that causes a lot of delays and compromises.
It sounds like Straya doesn’t have clear zoning regulations about what can or can’t be built at specific locations?
Or are there few-to-no land parcels that are actually zoned for mulit-unit dwellings?

Zoning is part of it but even after areas are rezoned the locals have lots of ways to prevent high density buildings. One council declared an entire suburb as ‘historically significant’ trying to stop a 6 story building.

I don’t remember if I posted about this here or not, but I was sued for libel by some Israeli right wing extremist.
I refused to pay him anything and it went to trial where he sued me for 150k nis (~42k usd). Pre-trial was today and the judge told him his lawsuit isn’t anywhere near reality. The judge hinted to me that what I wrote could be considered libel if we decide to continue and it would be in both our interests to end the trial with a donation to a public cause.
Since I offered this a year ago i didn’t mind it now too, as much as it was tempting to go on with the trial. His lawyer whined that legal represntation costs money (aka - he wanted me to pay for trail expenses). The judge told him that in cases where the lawsuit is so far off the real damages he is likely to rule that the plaintiff would be responsible for expenses.
Long story short, I agreed to donate 5k nis (~1.5k usd) to a rehabilitation center in both our names. He paid a ton to his high end lawyer so i’m pleased with the result.

It was a Facebook comment to a post about him by some leftist journalist. Not gonna specify the content lets say i dont like him and he posts worse things literally 50x times a day

His issue is that he feels too elitist for the mess MAGAs, so hes kinda in no-mans land. He did go full newsmax in recent years
