Right. This is one of the many fundamental problems with directly electing powerful leaders. America has been in a situation for at least the past year where it has been impossible for even the highest-info voters to get really reliable information on whether one of the candidates is cognitively fit to serve! What the fuck does it even mean for voters to “make a choice” under those conditions?
There are two aspects to making good decisions. One is having access to the required information and being able to assess that information. The other is being motivated by incentives which point in the correct direction. There are definitely issues with the latter when parties select candidates and leaders over here, but they are not anything like as severe as the problems voters have with the former.
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday said he would not run for president against Vice President Kamala Harris and remained steadfast in his support for President Biden as talks about seeking an alternative presidential nominee continue among Democrats.
His comments indicate that if Biden gives into calls to step aside, the California governor will not challenge Harris, a front-runner in conversations about who should replace the president on the November ballot, if she seeks the nomination.
“Of course,” Newsom said when asked whether he stood by comments he made last year about not running against Harris. “Yes.”

The ID verification laws that texas passed, plus their litigiousness with any domain that hosts what they deem “pornography” (which keep in mind has never really ever been successfully defined formally) means any for-profit porn website trying to operate above the board cannot possibly comply with Texas ID verification laws, because 1) it’s on a technical level very difficult to do whatever goofy ass KYC texas requires for porn on a site that’s engineered for mass-scale sessionless (no login required) porn delivery at high def, placing undue cost on large porn sites to comply with law and 2) the amount of ways users can circumvent this in ways aggressive, partisan texas judges would try to target would far outweigh whatever tangible benefit you could have to permitting texas business on your porn site.
Texas knew it was an effective pornhub ban, pornhub knew it was. In reality it’s political theater because people will just use vpn’s (now’s a great time to make a vpn service, incidentally).
