It sounds like the preference is really for being unified around a single candidate, Biden or not, and avoiding going into the convention with uncertainty. The people who want to replace Biden have to come up with a path towards avoiding chaos that doubters can accept.

I think whoever it is, the convention needs to be about introducing the nominee to America and promoting their message and why nominee is the person to lead the country at this time. It needs to be personal, itâs their main platform to attract positive attention and introduce the nominee to American people on their terms. The convention shouldnât be spent on selecting the candidate but on helping the candidate win and get their message out.

Enough people care about chaos that you might have zero chance of replacing Biden if you donât listen to their concerns. They may be wrong, but theyâre also real people who have to be part of the coalition youâre trying to build.

The problem with this plan is that no one will watch a scripted convention, and even if they did they wonât find a bunch of soft-focus videos persuasive. Thereâs a ton of downsides to this level of chaos, but at least it makes for good television.
