2024 North American Eclipse

I remember watching the March 1970 eclipse in NYC at home as a 7-year-ols it rode up the East Coast.

I also never forgot my teacher saying that the next near totality would be way out in 2024–when I’d be 61.

So cloudy here that you wouldn’t even know this was happening, can’t even find the sun.

It’s definitely possible and the pros warn to use proper filters. But although I don’t know the sensor and electronics well, it seems like it would not be difficult to design to prevent damage. A well-known youtube electronics reviewer did a 10 minute test with full sun yesterday with no apparent damage. Otoh, phones are gd expensive so … :man_shrugging:

Same thing here. Clouds and rain.

10 mins to totality, hard to explain the tint in the light, it’s blueish.

That’s what it was like when I was in middle school (I think?) and we had nothing but brutal thunderstorms all day, the sky couldn’t have been darker already.

We’re getting closer to our max (91%) here and I’m enjoying looking at a crescent sun through my eclipse glasses and a light haze of clouds, but it’s not even getting noticeably dark, not sure if it will be even at max.

I completely forgot about the weird shadow effect!

The last partial eclipse that was the most interesting part. I was walking around the neighborhood and wondering why all the shadows looked like half moons and then realized there was an eclipse going on

Omg the neighbors are playing Total Eclipse of the Heart. Jfc

About 90% here.

That was wild. Infinitely better than a partial eclipse.

A lot more clouds rolled in and I only got a brief glimpse of the partial eclipse here. This is probably my best pic, a reflection off of dark glass. :slightly_frowning_face:

Diamond ring phase seems like a perfect time to propose.

Found this resource for searching future eclipses. It’s at least much easier to use and understand than an lot of other options.
