I must be the only person in the history of Amazon to have to return something.
Got this huge Hot Wheels garage thingy that was broken out of the box. The battery powered motor wouldn’t turn on. Amazon replaced it immediately but now I have to get the damaged one back in the box bc they want it back. It’s like putting toothpaste back in the tube. Never going to get this thing to fit. fack
I’ve only had to return one thing ever but it was a near-seamless experience. I drove up to Kohl’s a few miles from my house, they had a whole kiosk in back operated by Amazon employees who took care of everything. It was a router, though, so pretty simple to repackage.
another layer to this tremendous annoyance is that my MIL is the person who bought this thing but something something it’s now my problem bc she’s completely flummoxed by the prospect of something going back to where it came from. still fack
Pretty sure everything you return to Amazon just goes in the dumpster anyway. That’s usually cheaper than figuring out if it still works and repackaging it.
This wouldn’t surprise me one bit. In an earnings call earlier this year, the head of AWS said they were expecting just that division to rake in $100 billion in revenues by the end of this FY.
Isn’t Amazon supposed to be making it more difficult to return things, or am i imagining I heard this a while back?
I’ve returned a ton of stuff to Amazon, mainly clothes I ordered in different sizes for the kids. Have a few phone cases I need to return this weekend. I usually go to Kohl’s, but there’s also a Whole Foods in the same shopping center.
I think this varies pretty considerably by locality and by drop off location and by seller. Most things I can drop off at whole foods and they basically give zero fucks about the condition it’s in or if it’s in packaging etc. Some stuff has to go back to UPS, and in that case, it must be “in a box” (presumably that a label can be affixed to). Some things I’ve had to return to Kohls (which is not super convenient for me), and usually those have to be in the original packaging.
My wife sent something to her sister (two states away) and it needed to be returned and I was about to lose my mind listening to her try to explain how to return shit to amazon to my wife (who returns approximately 900 items per week). My sister in law is one of those people who cannot comprehend that things might be different in different situations and also is 100% sure she is always correct and if you have a different opinion than she does, it’s obviously because you’re a moron. Anyway they’re on the phone and my wife is going to initiate the return and then just text the QR code to her sister and she’s yelling at my wife “just pick kohls” but kohls was clearly not even an option for this item and my SIL could not wrap her head around this and just kept yelling that my wife was doing it wrong.
We have several stores in my area now that appear to buy Amazon and other stores returns by the pallet load (home depot I assume as there were a lot of Ryobi tools) and resells them.
