2024 Election POST MORTEM

A subset of democrats consisting of older, mostly well off white men (not only here) are deriding minority voting blocs for “not voting the ‘right’ way” and that they “dont know what’s good for em” and even hoping they suffer disastrous consequences for it is not exactly what I’d call cringe, but it is certainly something. I’ll leave that as an exercise to the reader as to what it may look like from the outside.

This is why I didn’t lose a ton of sleep over it once I saw the pattern of the results. Democrats were just fucked royally this cycle, and I feel like the absolute ceiling if they had run the perfect campaign was to hold the House by a few votes, salvage like one extra Senate seat, and maybe taken Wisconsin or something while losing the other swing states by a bit more painfully small margin.

That said, there’s still about a million lessons for the party to learn for next time, so I hope they’re not telling themselves the above and just assuming it’ll all flip back their way when people are pissed at Trump in four years.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to give people some grace. We are rightly freaking out a bit, now that fascism is at the front door.

Reasonable people, rich and poor alike, are rapidly gaining understanding that even the most generous timeline is going to see a big reduction in personal freedom.

Do you have a quote on that? I’d never heard it, and this is the only thing I could find from a quick google:

“I’m not going to call this as a prediction, but in my opinion, the Jewish people would have a lot to do with a loss if I’m at 40%” support in the polls, Trump told Republicans in Washington at an event billed as opposing antisemitism. “If I’m at 40, think of it, that means 60% are voting for Kamala (Harris), who, in particular, is a bad Democrat. The Democrats are bad to Israel, very bad.”

But even if this is interpreted as a direct attack on Jewish people, he’s still only directing it at a group that represents something like 3% of the voting population, not literally everyone voting for Harris.

I mean, the quote is the difference between saying, people that vote for Trump are low info morons, and “I can’t believe people would vote for Trump, he’s bad for them, very bad.” Seems clear to me that those two messages would land differently.

I dont really disagree just still kind of shocked at how quickly and viciously it came out, especially on twitter, and from a lot of people from whom I did not expect it - and I was already extremely cynical

Omg, Trump said any Jew who backs Democrats is “an absolute fool” who needs “their head examined.”

He is the one that is literally calling people who don’t vote for him a low info moron so literally the exact opposite of what you are claiming is true.

If there is any lesson to be taken from Donald Trump on this issue, it is that politicians should openly express disdain for people who don’t agree with them, I.e. they should say “anyone who doesn’t vote for me is a fucking moron, you aren’t a fucking moron, are you?”

Basically this:

What people really don’t like is liberals being shy and squishy about people disagreeing with them. Should be more forceful about it, “I’m obviously right and if you don’t agree then you are fucking a moron!”

Shows strength and people respect strength!

I know people in rural Tennessee that don’t know a green arrow at an intersection is the same thing as a green light even if all the other lights at that intersection are red. I know a guy that lives in a mobile home near a river that thinks he’s safe from tornadoes because “tornadoes can’t cross water.” I know adults that think a woman can’t get pregnant unless she is married because “only mommies and daddies can have kids.”

So yea, I think I’m better than these uneducated simpletons. Sorry, not sorry.

Yes, cult leaders have a way of making their cult members feel special. Its kinda an integral part of cultism.

As opposed to the reds who wont let you do drugs and have sex.

No scolds there.

One of my favorite questions when I’m playing poker in Texas, the land of the free, is why is smoking weed still illegal there. And why liquor stores must be shut down by 9pm. And why poker is only quasi-legal. And why women can’t make their own choices with their body. Fuck that state. It’s only two redeeming qualities are the food and the fact that there are lots of dumbasses with money. It’s almost kind of annoying how much better poker games are in red states.

LA has good food and lots of dumbasses with money

Yea but if I go there it’s $135 for the shittiest Best Western you’ve ever seen and $25 for Kung Pao Chicken at the Commerce. I mean it’s good Kung Pao Chicken though…

yeah this can’t be overemphasized. Incumbents worldwide took a WHOOPIN this year, democrats did WAY better than really any incumbent party in developed nations

Just had a realization that MSA population of LA is the same as the top 3 Texas cities combined (Dalls-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio). That is a large player pool.

I’m a Case Manager. You’d be surprised at how bad education is in rural red areas. Driver’s Ed and Sex Ed are not requirements in TN. For Sex Ed, they call it “Family Life Education.” You can guess what that means.
