2024 Election POST MORTEM

In a general election? No they didn’t.

Close to 90 million eligible voters didn’t vote in 2024, so I guess we’ll never know. But my guess is, if a progressive candidate would keep pounding on the fact that gluttonous corporations and billionaires are the enemy of the people the way Trump pounds on the media, Trump loses in a landslide

Problem is the low info and low propensity voters voted Trump.

The saving grace here is that I don’t actually think issues matter. People largely make up their minds first then fill in positions later.

What you can’t do honestly is use this election to say the electorate yearns for the one true lefty. It decidedly does not say that

Kamala’s policies as-is were substantially more popular than Trump’s when divorced from the candidate. Trump’s policies were so unpopular that his voters were rationalizing that either they wouldn’t come to be or that they wouldn’t be affected.

She failed because she failed to beat a cult of personality with a massive online media empire behind him which has been touting him as the lord and savior nonstop since 2015. There’s zero reason to believe she would have won if she had only adopted a few more lefty policies.

Every podcast I listen to is orgasmically searching for these morons who are super pro choice but voted Trump. Super pro civil rights but voted Trump. Voted Trump then blue down ticket.

Let’s examine them and their motives. What could be driving this shift. How interesting they are. What deep analysis could have driven them to this choice.

They are low information absolute morons. Stop pretending they are more.

Turns out you need their votes to win, tho.

Sure but let’s all stop pretending they are more than people so stupid as to not understand even the most basic aspects of American politics. They are basically voting with the depth of analysis they use when they call into American idol.

You think their votes are purely stochastic and thus are unpursuadable? That would be a blistering hot take.

Of course they are persuadable. They have no idea why they voted the way they did other than “Trump make bad stuff good again.”

Seems like a good thing to investigate!

Calling them low info morons is a great way to persuade them!

It’s actually probably less.

Still great though. I might steal this.

I don’t understand the point of posts like this. We all know this. Calling them low info morons on unstuck is completely different and fine.

I honestly don’t think it’s about adopting policies, but rather, pounding on people’s fears, which is the one thing Trump does well. First, he creates the grievances…

-The enemy of the people
-The radical fascist left
-You won’t have a country anymore
-Insane rapists and killers are coming in by the millions
-They’re eating the dogs

Then he just pounds this into their feeble brains over and over. The Democrats need to do the same thing only with multi billion dollar corporations and oligarchs. You don’t court them, you demonize them

People are more apt to vote out of fear than they are of any one policy imo

I really think that framing this as a left vs. right election miss by the Dems is missing the bigger point which is that this was, clearly and objectively, a reality vs. fantasy election. Certainly the right is always pushing FEAR narratives with a heavy dose of lies, but it was really, really stark in this election that there is the observable world around us, where the Dems ran with their facts and policies, and the completely online made up alternative reality where the majority of people live and that’s where the Rs ran with their fantasy solutions to fantasy prolems. Dems are dead meat if they don’t frame a forward looking plan around this fundamental, IMO.

Also, the other side isn’t shy about disrespecting the vast majority of Americans and they crush these elections.

Was going to also say we don’t have any here but we do have the CONSEQUENCES crowd.

I don’t think people who post stuff like that moderate their language or tone anywhere else. It’s not just about this message board. How you talk about people here almost certainly carries over into other parts of our lives.
