As far as Iā€™m aware, the NZ stereotype of Australians is that weā€™re ill-mannered and lazy, which, guilty as charged.

Speaking of Roganā€¦

Kamala Harrisā€™s fears of a progressive backlash killed a plan for her to appear on Joe Roganā€™s podcast, a campaign official has said, shedding light on a decision that infuriated some Democrats who are reeling after Donald Trumpā€™s election victory.

The Harris campaign and Rogan, whose audience is bigger than that of many television networks, had discussed an interview for his podcast ā€” a move some Democrats hoped would help Harris reach young men who were gravitating towards Trump.

The talks faltered because of concerns at how the interview would be perceived within the Democratic party, said Jennifer Palmieri, a senior adviser to Harrisā€™s husband, Doug Emhoff. ā€œThere was a backlash with some of our progressive staff that didnā€™t want her to be on it, and how there would be a backlash,ā€ Palmieri said on Wednesday.

As I said earlier, I donā€™t think going on Rogan at that late hour would have helped. But this sort of thinking has got to go.

The candidate who ran on tougher border laws and campaigned with the Cheneyā€™s was very worried about progressive backlash.

Republicans with complete control of everything without passing any legislation besides tax cuts in the last 20 years.

I mean, thatā€™s what the People want right? Tax cuts and less government. It shouldnā€™t be surprising that the GOP wins elections.

Yea thatā€™s why I think itā€™s some post hoc ass covering through left punching and the actual reason was they didnā€™t think it was beneficial for the cost of of a lost day of campaigning in the home stretch, progressive backlash or not.

I actually think it may be dumber than that. I can see the campaign thinking that the issue with Rogan is that he tells dirty, racist jokes and embraces some conspiracy theories. They may still be living in a world where hanging out with war criminals like Cheney is fine because they speak with some level of sophistication and decorum, but you canā€™t do the same with an apolitical shock jock. Which of course just reinforces the stereotype that the left is a bunch of snowflakes triggered by offensive words and not the incredibly harmful actions carried out by the GOP over the years, all while ignoring what the actual left wants.

She went on Howard stern. He might not be a shock jock anymore though.

You donā€™t think the dems should excessively purity test media interviewers?

really weird how she suddenly cared about progressivesā€™ opinions in the case of rogan but not on, sayā€¦ anything else?

Who even knows what they mean by ā€œprogressiveā€?

Centrists know what they mean, in the same way that conservatives know exactly what they mean when they talk about ā€œurbanā€ people.

I could come up with a lot of reasons that arenā€™t very charitable.

The ā€œpolitics is easy - you just need to support policies that materially help peopleā€™s livesā€ crowd takes another L

Anyways I actually watched the video. Cliffs:

  • Heā€™s an undocumented mechanic in Texas with two young daughters (US citizens)
  • He would not regret supporting Trump even if he is deported because Trump is so much better on the economy that with respect to the trajectory of his daughtersā€™ future, itā€™s the right gamble

Thatā€™s sort of an argument that simple economic populism is a winning message.

There is a problem that people will always assume that rich businessmen are inherently good at making the economy better when in reality they are conmen fraudsters or trust funds that got rich exploiting the labor of this mechanic. Rich businessmen will always tilt to the economic right. They donā€™t actually need worker protections or collective bargaining rights.

People (well, Americans) believe this because Dems conceded this territory to Reagan after Reagan stomped them. Its not actually a given, it just feels that way in the US because it has been an accepted belief for 45 years.
