2024 Election POST MORTEM

I almost didn’t vote knowing I’m in a red state and my vote is LOL. But I did think Harris was gonna win so I wanted to run up the score. It was the only reason I voted.

I think it’s mostly their dominance on social media including Spanish speaking social media. Everything is coded in a way that democrats are cringe and weak and love trans people and not having any genders and aborting babies and Trump is fearless super strong man leader. They’ve just completely won the messaging war.

Wisconsin turnout up 1.3% from 2020

Here’s an article that is all over the place about Latinos voted the way they did. Most of the points they bring up have already been discussed itt, except this one:

“One in five Hispanic men work in the construction industry,” he said. They enjoyed low interest rates under the first Trump administration and lower housing costs, whether those had anything to do with his policies or not. “If you’re one of the Latino men who work in the construction industry, you were quantifiably better off under the Trump administration.”

Trump supporter to me today, “Trump said god saved him from asassination so he can do good stuff for the country.”

I wonder how much the assassination attempt(s) factored in. They left news cycle quickly but did they leave the collective consciousness?

Sure Nate

It’s both. It’s the economy, but they’re blaming it on illegal immigration. The story someone posted from the Austin Stateman interviewed day laborers outside a home depot, and they were complaining how much harder it is to get hired because there’s so many more immigrants trying to get hired outside home depot. And how the less money they make isn’t going as far.

Also, they think the Trump admin will deport the other guys, not them.

– Can we have a new rule for Democrats? If you give people money, fucking tell them . No, not just with signing statements or campaign speeches or ads; that’s not good enough (although those didn’t happen either). When Dems passed that temporary fully refundable family tax credit, those $500 checks should have been paper, they should have had Biden’s signature, and they should have been at the bottom of a letter saying, “This check is your tax refund from President Biden’s plan to improve lives for working families. You will receive one per month as long as the program lasts” with the names and numbers of their congressional representatives and how they voted underneath.

Dont know how politically feasible that is, but I think we can put the “do good things for people and only mention it once at signing” as dead. You’ve got to be telling everyone at any time what you did and how good it is

Trump’s coalition includes Latinos and Great Replacement theorists, billionaires and resentful union workers, a fierce determination to tariff everything and a lot of voters who just want prices to go down. That, to me, seems less like a new dominant political juggernaut and more like a minecart of dynamite with a lit fuse. It’s easy for everyone to have their own imaginary version of Trump when he’s not in office doing things.

You say that, but the ideal Republican society is one where every rung of the hierarchy is accepting of the rungs above it and pushing down the rungs below it.

Anyone who said this was 100% was always voting for him. The photo did seem to give him a boost from the rah rah Rogan types but I would doubt it was a significant driver of turnout.

Basically every young guy I saw outside the Trump rally on election night had a t-shirt with either his mug shot or him bloody.

Trump has like seven brain cells left.

And Democrats are losing to him.

My election post mortem, which no one should care about:

Dems should ditch ~all of the culture war, incredibly annoying bullshit and be all in on being the left economic party. Note: rich people = bad is also culture war bullshit, just pitch the policies without demonizing people.

Probably also ditch all of the stuff that makes cis white men think that you low key hate them. I vote dem 100% of the time because it’s clearly the party for non fucking morons but that does not work on many.

Yes.

Talked to my old landlord from like 10 years ago. He’s never worked a full time job and became disabled in a car accident about 5 years ago. So he only gets SSI instead of SSDI. It’s like $300/month. His house burned down last year. He didn’t have home owners insurance so he’s basically SOL. On election night, he posted how Jesus wanted Trump to win. I told him there’s a good chance he’s gonna lose his $300/month if Project 2025 takes affect. He said it didn’t matter because Trump is the lesser of two evils but at least he won’t take anyone’s guns away.

There’s just no reasoning with these people.

Even though they saw record voter registration, actually voting was down in major Texas cities.

The majority of Hispanic men I’ve known in construction have not been citizens and thus don’t vote and among the minority who are, there’s a fair amount of resentment towards those who aren’t. One guy who I have known very well for a long time, since he was 17 and is now like 33, I got him to stop calling the immigrants ‘pisa’. It’s still immigration.

If the LA times just went to a construction site and found some Hispanic men who speak very good English, it’s not that surprising that they found some Trump voters.

I’m not sure we’re accounting enough for the fact that every time the dodgers win the world series there’s a one term president elected like a week later

There needs to be a villain. Billionaires make an easy villain.
