Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul have been saying this for decades, and both ran as Populists with wildly enthusiastic supporters.
Immigration is economically related if you think theyâre coming to steal jobs and sponge resources
All of the bolded is false.
But since I understand that anger is part of the grieving process, I wonât engage your unfounded personal attack.
That would appeal to some people, but she would have offended other people. Would that have gotten more votes than it lost? Maybe. I have no idea. I assume talking about âgood campaignâ or not means good for votes and not morally good.
THIS!!!
Republicans have never cared but they wonât stfu about it. Vance was suggesting shutdowns in September.
I agree 100%. Even when the GOP owns the WH and the Congress, âmy sideâ lower taxes and the deficit goes through the roof.
I think UBI would get through to people
Give everyone 1,000 a month and tax the fuck out of rich people
Biden bailed out the Teamstersâ pension, which is basically lifetime UBI for people that qualified. Every Republican voted against it. It was quite literally the difference between this group of people getting guaranteed income for life or not.
Ultimately the Teamsters endorsed no one because too much of their membership was supporting Trump. So I think anyone putting forward this type of suggestion needs to understand and reckon with this.
I donât think people are so stupid that they think penniless people who walked from Venezuela are going to take their job or outbid them on a house in the suburbs and I think they know that sponging isnât a huge expense. I think they are mad about the sponging because they donât think the Venezuelan walkers deserve it, but thatâs a lot more like just not wanting them here because they donât like them and donât want their culture visible here or, as they see it, erasing American culture.
what happened to this guy
Time will tell whether insulting voters who donât vote âthe right wayâ is an effective strategy.
Just speedran 300 posts in this thread. Lots of good stuff. I mostly agree with the âshe shouldâve done Roganâ comments. We need to go after the people who donât consume politics all day every day. Those people are well solidified in their camps. Iâm not saying thereâs no value in energizing the base, or in driving turnout, but you gotta reach the apolitical voters. Trump did, and itâs a big part of why he won twice.
That said âItâs the economy, stupidâ is undefeated. If shit got worse for people since the last election, the POTUS and his party will pay a price. Itâs automatic. Youâre giving the other candidate a head start no matter what you do and thatâs always a tough battle to overcome in a narrowly divided country. The dems lost ground in this election. Thatâs no surprise. But it does appear we lost less ground in swing states where both parties were campaigning. That means our message does make a difference on the margins. In non-swing states where things were just left up to the fundamentals (vibes/economy/whatever) we took a bigger hit. I donated some money for the first time ever (god I hope I still have disposal income in the next 2-4 years). I think Iâm volunteering next time around. Free time is hard to come by but my kids will be older and I think I can swing it. Iâm motivated more than ever to keep this shit from happening again.
But I swear to god any dems who text me for money in the next year is getting a reply of a photo of my taint, balls, and asshole.
Did Biden ever say, âI protected your pensionsâ Much less repeat it like a mates in the way that Trump does. I honestly donât know, but I canât recall ever hearing it from him or his surrogates.
Time already did tell and itâs stupid as hell. Insulting anyone as a politician is probably the wrong move. Unless youâre running a hate based campaign and are using bullying of marginalized people as a tactic. Iâm all for dems switching up their messaging and tactics a bit after this one, but any sort of bullying and/or being a dick is a non-starter for me.

Yes the problem is almost definitely that Biden never said it, and not how people get their information. Hopefully next time our Democratic president will âuse the bully pulpitâ so when people tune into PBS News Hour they will know about all the good things he did for them, then we will win. /s
Itâs not one thing or the other. Itâs both. But even if you snap your fingers and all media is no longer spewing right wing messaging you still need people out there talking about the things that Biden has done on these new media outlets for people to know about it. It needs to be constant, too.

No oneâs argument is that Democrats should do bad things, or Democrats shouldnât tell people about the good things they are doing for people.
TBF the inflation question is stupid because shit really is a lot more expensive than it was 4 years ago. Even if itâs stopped inflating, people still canât afford shit, and trying to give them an economic lesson on it is never going to work. Just say youâre going to make groceries more affordable and then do it.
As for the rest, the cultists are going to give their answers. Re-run this survey in like 4 months and magically a lot of Trump voters will flip their answers. IDGAF about that. But there are some people, probably a small percent, but enough that it could matter, that did choose the wrong answers on crime and immigration because dems lost the messaging war. That might be fixable.

Border patrol had as many as 250000 encounters in a month in 2023. Thatâs what happened. Itâs not a right wing talking point. The nonsense about eating cats and being rapists doesnât cause the anti-immigration sentiment, itâs the result of it. Look at your NextDoor posts. People donât need any help to make monsters out of anyone they donât want around.
I want to say the only solution is to raise the next generation of kids better, but I donât know how to get people to raise their kids to be less hateful anymore than I know how to get them to be less hateful in the first place.
have them watch mr rogers every day from an early age and theyâll probably internalize a lot of empathy - rather than this youtube brainrot crap. If you guys think gen Z is bad, just wait for the ipad generation
Mr. Rogers certainly wouldnât hurt, but I donât know how to make them do that or anything else.
