Looks like I was wrong and CA 47 may hold to dave min, who ran instead of the fairly popular Katie Porter after she got pushed out of the senate primary by the establishment. got a DUI and decided stay in the race anyway, lol. Between Baugh and Min, these have to be the two worst candidates of any district in the country. I should run next time.

The economy and the narrative that was established on it from 2020-2024 was decisive for an EV victory and everything else was stuff that just affected the margin, imo.

Even the trans ad they blasted everywhere was related to the economy even if done in a sinister in a way that maximally stimulated the amygdala. Message was why are we paying for criminals to get this surgery when that money could be used to help you put food on the table?

On reflection, I think this is actually too pessimistic. The root problem here is that voters don’t trust Democrats, so they assess their reality for evidence that Dems are off fighting esoteric culture war battles and ignoring their problems. And they find some old Harris clips about sex change surgery for inmates and see $3 eggs, so it’s confirmed. If they had more confidence in Dems, they’d remember how big their raises were the last couple years and how worried they were that COVID was going to cause a worse economic crisis than in the 2000s.

Maybe they don’t trust Harris because she said crossing the border didn’t make someone a criminal when she last ran in the Democratic primary and then the opposite now. Or, she said ban fracking back when she thought that was strategic and then not when she didn’t. People are right not to trust her.

I feel like she started very well and then slowed down big time. Closing was pretty strong, but it was too late.

By far the biggest mistake she made was being complicit in not getting a coalition together to tell old man Biden that he was not running for a 2nd term.

she started off well but that was mostly just due to the enthusiasm from the base that the dementia man was finally gone, that was going to be the case with any candidate. her campaign completely failed to capitalize on the renewed enthusiasm, they didnt let her do an interview for like 2 months and even when they finally let her it was only really safe interviews like on the View. they also failed to give out any policy positions other than abortion, they failed at messaging how they were going to help you with your pocketbook only giving some very weak attempts like tax breaks for small businesses. Overall they just played it WAY too safe, we were down by 7 going into the 4th quarter and they ran the campaign like it was 2020 and we were up by 14.

It seems like the big issue for them has to be illegal immigration. I guess they feel like new arrivals are making them look bad? I don’t see any other way to explain it. That is the single defining issue in this election compared to others.

-Biden admin passed overtime rules to expand ot on salary jobs over 40k a year for more than 40 hours

-Biden admin passed regulations to limit how long you can be exposed in hot temperatures at your job

-most pro union admin in history which protected millions pensions from going broke and having most pro union nlrb in modern history (which has reinstated record amounts of jobs back)

-Most anti corporate FTC in modern history which blocked more corporate mergers than anyone else in recent history. Has taken action to ban non competes and protect labor in corporate mergers

The more I think about it the more I don’t see anything Dems could, or frankly, can do differently because people are voting against the system that is broken. Dems are half the system.

This is a place where we actually share a bedrock principle with MAGA. We all think the American system is fundamentally broken.

I have no idea, but wonder if the rebuild on the left isn’t somehow built on that shared belief.

I’m not saying anything Bernie hasn’t been saying for decades but it really feels like that is the key. Something laser focused on the system. Stripped of the social stuff that divides.
