2024 Election POST MORTEM

I believe they sincerely thought Bernie couldn’t win and that they had a better chance with other options.

Rogan podcastbros are part of it, but there’s also Gen-Z streamer guys, white women, Latinos across the board. I think appearing on Rogan is fine but we’re deluding ourselves about the magnitude of the problem if we think acing a Rogan interview would have given Kamala the win here. There just isn’t going to be a One Cool Trick that unfucks the problem.

I think a lot of voters felt that way (though some didn’t), but the people inside? Not just the top people, but generally party organizers? Enough of them said “he’s not even a Democrat” to make it pretty clear.

Merely going on Joe Rogan wouldn’t solve anything. Not doing so is symptomatic of a larger issue in that Democrats have been writing off portions of the population as unreachable, while Trump didn’t, and his idea was better.

Any choice excerpts from the 2+2 board. I opened one of the threads for a few mintues of scrolling and it was dogshit.

Joe Rogan has been a partisan hack since forever now. He’s one of the biggest antivax voices on the planet, doesn’t shut up about trans people and wokism and believes and promotes every republican conspiracy there is. Watched some of his Trump interview and it was the most sycophantic thing I’ve watched. Meanwhile when his buddies are revealed to be paid millions from Russians for literal propaganda he completely ignores it. I’m surprised people think he is or ever was a good faith actor.

If the left was strong enough to take over the Democratic Party, that wouldn’t have mattered.

Also, I think we’re putting the cart before the horse here. Bernie was a cross-party phenomenon long before he ever got on the Rogan podcast. It’s not at all clear that Rogan gave him a huge bump.

True, true, takes some balls to even look black men and Latinos in the eye after some of the things Trump said about them but Trump don’t give a f. Willing to ask for a vote from anyone, at anytime and at any place.

So go on and if Rogan starts getting hostile then you can respond by pulling moves out of your hostile interview bag.

Say what you want about mayor Pete, he would excel in that environment

To give a less trollish answer, I don’t think it would have mattered AT ALL if Kamala had gone on Rogan, it is way too late for that. My point is that I think now there is a bit of a dawning realization in Dem circles that perhaps their cultural hegemony is not as unassailable as they thought and it would have been better to engage with platforms like Rogan rather than yell at them and/or pretend they don’t exist.

What Sanders did on Rogan was not “the diet coke version of Trump and the alt-right”, Rogan let him talk about his ideas uninterrupted for like 3 hours. Would it have made any difference to anything if young Democrats had embraced the chance to talk to his audience and we had say Pete and one of the Squad go on there? I honestly have no idea. I can tell you that hostility doesn’t seem to have worked out great though.

Maybe an idiot with an audience who has been subjected to nothing but right wing nonsense for years because no one else will talk to him is a breeding ground for becoming a partisan hack.

Bernie was a cross party phenomenon before Rogan because he had very strong personal ideals about his country and he spoke it from a personal level with validity and anger. It worked for him. It worked for republicans. Rogan very likely accentuated Bernie’s approach to some degree.

But it isn’t about that because in this game, you don’t lose points when someone decides that they hate you more. you need to build attention, sometimes recklessly, to get turnout, but more importatnly, to gain personal connections.

Of course that’s right. It’s pretty obvious that being honest or correct or good is not rewarded in politics.

Agree with that. That hard part is building a brand that people like, the endorsements come after that. Feel like we’re focusing on a Rogan appearance and not what got most of us interested in Sanders in the first place.
