Yeah, I’m inclined to see this as not US-specific. Trump being terrible kept the margin fairly close. Bot farms got nothing on Joe Rogan bros, which come in all shades.
Setting aside any analysis, I think it’s a matter of objective fact that the Dems ran a dead center campaign. I can’t even think of a single left wing policy proposal.
There was perhaps a belief that her identify alone gave her enough left wing bona fides that they could bank on the Biden coalition turning back out for her and focus solely on the center.
Remember Jimmy Carter won after Nixon crushed in 72. We ride on a whirlwind that often frustrates rational analysis.

The one radical centrist I saw on Twitter said she definitely tried to reach out and they voted for her but the way she did so seemed clunky and contrived and they were pretty sure she was going to tact back left when governing because that is where her heart is as proven by her track record.
When people say it was too left they just mean they wanted it to be explicitly anti trans

I think there is some truth to that. But I just wanted to point out that this election was unique in that it’s almost impossible for anyone in good faith to claim that the Dems ran a campaign that was “too far left”.

Yeah I guess my twitter timeline wasn’t saying that as much, going back to look for examples. I misread one tweet complaining that Harris dropped the populist anti-big business rhetoric. On first read, I thought it was complaining that she did it.
The too far left stuff is mostly just people who were never going to vote for her anyway.

The post is not deleted and I wasn’t “blaming” the voters. Don’t put words in my mouth. I was describing reality. It’s the job of democrats to reach voters and try to help them as best as possible. But when voters have long lists of (often unrealistic) things they want, and every person has a different list, then it’s not going to be possible to make people happy and incumbents are going to have a bad time.

Maybe it’s moving right, maybe its going left, or maybe just rearranging the importance of the issues a little.
The dem party has basically become the Unstuck where they have their nice little basket of conformity and alignment. That’s great. But when you either volunatrily lose, or kick out folks both on the left and the right for completely different reasons, you simply just won’t have the turnout to win against the gop.
The dems need to start building coalitions and making friends with people they don’t like if they want to win - even if its fake and lathered in bullshit.

Broken record today but I don’t think it really matters that much for the Dems if they move left or right or stay the same(I think left is better but not convinced it matters). They just need to actually start meaning some of the things they say.

I can relate. I want to lash out also. I think focusing on the good in our own lives and trying to ignore this shit is the best and most healthy thing to do for now.
