Why trust this person above others? Does he have specialized training in urban planning or helping the homeless? Does he have a degree in addictive medicine, or some kind of psychiatry/psychology degree?
In all honesty, it seems like hes a deli owner who contributes to poverty tourism and doesnt “trust the experts.”
He is the exact type of person who will vote from Trump and eventually have his face eaten because they arent going to do a single fucking thing different to help SF. More likely than not, they will export homeless from areas that voted for Trump TOO Sf to piss off thess people more and try to get them to vote for Trump next time.
Nobody is winning the fight against homelessness and drug addicition right now but at least the liberals are fucking trying things. You know, like rent control, that failed fucking miserably again for the third fucking time. You dont think some of the homeless out there got fucked by our housing market and now have nowhere to go?
i mean what else are you supposed to do with them? i think an olympic sized swimming pool of fentanyl in the superdome is what they want? do they want rehab? they can have that for sure. but them living in the park doesn’t seem fair for the rest of society.
I was replying to a now deleted post whining about how the poster has only seen interviews from voters who say “the dems didn’t offer me any ponies so I didn’t vote for them” and the poster blames the voters for being dumb dumbs
Right? Why bother with generations of studies when your feelz say that clean needles enable them and your feelz make normies lives worse instead of better
Yes, drug addicts just love being addicted by default. Its not as though addiction serverely fucks up your brain or anything and might affect your impulsion centers so that if someone asks you “job or crack” you automatically choose crack.
This is just American consumerism standard. This is what they’ve been trained to expect from the world, they think it’s their birthrate as Americans and if they aren’t getting everything they want right now, then they want someone to blame.
So you have to give them something obvious so there’s at least a choice. Offering them technocratic proof (white papers, economist reports, Excel charts) that show that Dem policies make lives better on average is not effective. People don’t experience daily life as what is happening to technocratic averages. They experience daily life personally - they want to hear about specific solutions to their specific challenges.
I’m fine giving free needles & free drugs & free rehab… just not letting them sleep in the park. i don’t think it is unreasonable for people to want addict-free parks. if you want to build a fentanyl tower in the middle of downtown go ahead, just clearly needs to be seperated imho
Its a consequence of late stage capitalism. Fascism is the default because they promise you everything including getting rid of everything you are scared of. And if you vote for them youll get it immediately, not after decades of hard work.
Take the homelessness we are discussing. Trump will fix the issue, but not the problem. Because he doesnt care about the human factor. Dont like the homeless in your backyard? The fascists will fix it, either by rounding them up and moving them somewhere else (a place either too hot or too cold to kill them by proxy) or by putting them in camps where they will eventually die out. Poof! No more homeless. At least until the next round of rent hikes go in and a recession hits, and then, whoopsie, the person who wanted the homeless out of their backyard might hit a run of bad luck, lose their job, end up homeless, and then its their turn in the camps. But the fascist will fix it, right?
Well I was hoping this article would have some answers but it didn’t really.
During Ted Cruz’s victory party in Texas last night, he talked about the decisive rightward swing among multiple demographic groups, saying, “The results tonight — this decisive victory — should shake the Democrat establishment to its core.” He’s not entirely wrong. For decades, Democrats have banked on the idea that Latinos will vote for them reflexively because Latinos would see Republican language about immigration as inherently racist (and much of it is).
But the results from last night show this is simply not true. Survey after survey shows that Latinos vote more with their pocketbooks than on immigration. UnidosUS also showed that in every swing state, the cost of living ranked high for Latinos, even as many of them broke for Harris.
And it’s not just in border counties either. Take for example Osceola County, Florida, which has plenty of Puerto Ricans. Many Democrats thought that comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s joke about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of garbage” would enrage Puerto Ricans living in the mainland United States. That proved not to be the case. Instead, Osceola went from voting for Joe Biden by 14 points to voting for Trump by 1.5 points.
This should be seen as an apocalyptic moment for Democrats that brings forward a reckoning. At their core, the Democratic Party will need to regain its focus on being the party that enables prosperity above all else if it is to have any kind of fighting chance at winning back Latinos from Trump.
Be the party that enables prosperity. But w/o any inflation. Got it.
